Thanks much for the perspective. I have been trying to balance the elk interactions with the people interactions and quality or opportunity. Even with reduced tags, 5BN has a lot of elk, but also a lot of people in it from what I have been told.

Thanks for the information. How did your hunt in NM go? Where were you hunting (unit)? So what distance did you finally get comfortable shooting too with your load? My goal is to be comfortable out to 200 yards max. Is that doable?

The drawings have been fortunate to me this year. I will be hunting moose in Maine and the end of September and then Elk in New Mexico the beginning of October. My NM tag is for muzzy only, but I would also like to hunt my moose with that as well. But because of the close proximity of the two...

Thanks for the help everyone. I applied for unit 70 4th season. Now we wait and see how many folks cash in their points this year and if I have a chance or not!

That sort of suggests that 3rd season may be the better season this year, and it is possible 4th season could be tuff if it is the tail end of the rut and the deer have been pressured. Decisions, decisions. So now based on all the feedback, I am torn between GMU 22 and GMU 70.

This may seem like a silly question, but when is the "typical" peak of the rut in southern Colorado? For us and up north, it really kicks in around Veterans day (Nov 11). I realize it is weather dependent to really get them moving, but is the rut in Colorado a bit later?

What is the update on the sell of the Shell Oil lease? Did that go through and it is a done deal that portion is off-limits now for hunting?
