    Bipod or Tripod shooting stick?

I have the Bog Pod, and my buddy has the Primos tripod TriggerStick...which I think is pretty slick. Either way the tripod is much more solid than the bipod in sittibg or standing positions, and would be the way to go in my opinion...especially with the kids.

Could You and Would You Take the Shot?

LAST EDITED ON Jul-25-19 AT 03:37PM (MST)[p]If I got the range dialed and arrow nocked, I can can make that shot. I prefer a quartering away shot, just put it thru the opposite shoulder...although at this angle it'll likely be going thru the front of the opposite shoulder. Oh, and he's big...

    mid to late october calling

I wouldn't go crazy tryibg to call them in, so much as to locate them or get them to stop. The reason you cam find elk going off at that time is the 2nd estrus for the cows that didn't take the first go round. This can turn into an amazing opportunity with a rifle in hand, but expect the...

I really wanted that deer tag. Can't wait to see what Zach does with it.

    Valles Caldera?

Nice!! I did see a lot of coyotes there as well...several were hunting prairie dogs, with no concern for our presence whatsoever.

    Valles Caldera?

We ended up camping at the top of the hill behind Ponderosa. I know things are different now from 3 weeks ago, but if you can't find a cow in there... Again, I've never been to an area more densely populated with elk. Not only is the habitat ideal, but I think the fact that it is a preserve...

    Valles Caldera?

His son-in-law drew and hunted thru Wednesday morning, passing on smaller bulls in search of a big one. He ended up with tag soup, but said that another hunter tagged a monster 6x7 pushing 400". One of the outfitters on the hunt also stated that a non-typical was taken last year that scored 413".

    Valles Caldera?

Not the biggest bull on the mountain, but after pushing him hard and missing 2 bulls on Saturday, he made a good shot on this one on Sunday. First hunt ever, and he really had no idea what he was in for, but now he has a freezer full of quality meat. As for my thoughts on the VC; it is indeed...

    Valles Caldera?

Heading up first thing in the AM to get setup, do the orientation deal, and get a little last minute scouting in tomorrow evening. Success rates for the last couple years are very high... I think I'm more excited about this hunt than my buddy is. Hope to have pics to share early next week.

Will have to look into that then.

    Expect roadblocks during hunting season!

Been checked randomly when we've ran into rangers driving around. Sometimes they've stopped to chat, but don't even check. However, never hit an actual road block. Did have a buddy stalk and legally shoot up a NMDGF decoy once; he drove past, parked, snuck around and put 2 rounds into what...

Good point about Banco Bonito. Might have to reconsider that. Although I don't believe they allow campfires there... If/when succesful, there's nothing like celebrating around an open fire with fresh tenderloin grilled over hot coals.
