    Unit 501

It could be good; just be aware that you will have lots of non-hunter company at any trailheads, etc.

    Unit 501

I hunted it twice, once last season and once 8 years ago. Hiking and biking traffic is WAY up from 8 yrs ago. Scored a 300 bull muzzleloader season 1st time, never saw an elk last year. Conditions were hot and dry, and there was a fire in the wilderness portion of the unit, with trail closures...

    They got me!

Keep it and eat it, you'll probably like it. I would suggest having some smoked. Also the fat will render into useful oil. You can't sell it but some oldtimer will want it. By the way, I saw a guy bring a lion to the taxidermist, where he met the Wildlife officer for proper tagging. The...

    CO Unit 14 muzzy elk

See if they will take you back in the Swamp Park region of Zirkel Wilderness. Would like to know how it works out because there are other old muzzy guys interested. Coulton Creek and Hinman Creek on the S. side of Farwell Mtn. used to be the best elk country ever. Have not been there since late...

    Percussion Breach Clean out

I carefully drilled down the center of the screw with a very small bit, then increasingly larger bits until the threads came loose. Pulled them out like a coil, put in an allen head set screw like the ones used on pulleys. Now I just leave it in when cleaning. How tough was it to remove your breech?

    Cow Moose 7, 8, 191!!!

Archery and muzzleloader elk hunter camps can be a great source of info for moose hunters. I would keep the muzzleloader license if I were you. Rifle hunts are later. Be prepared to deal with the meat and keep it cool. The wildlife officials will check to be sure it is cared for properly! You...

When did CO go to GMUs?

I put the question to the CPW, and they stated that the concept of Game Management Units was introduced in 1957, west of the Continental Divide. So pretty long time ago!

When did CO go to GMUs?

Numbers of hunters afield seems to change with conditions. Some old favorite places (parts of NW Co) used to be crowded with game and hunters, but as the animals moved on, so did the hunters. Other areas (Front range draw-only) have remained steady in both game and hunter numbers. The hunter...

When did CO go to GMUs?

I tried to google the answer, but no luck. First year I hunted Colo was 1965, and all licenses were sold over-the-counter at stores everywhere hunters congregated. If I recall, there were several units in place (Mt. Evans Elk Management) where drawings were conducted; but that may have been...

    2018 Estimated Harvest Stats Posted

Look at how well moose are doing in the state, with very exacting hunter surveys and mandatory reporting. I think reports like that are needed for some of the deer and elk hunts that have taken a big dive in quality in recent decades. How about replacing the question "did you hunt in any other...

    2018 Estimated Harvest Stats Posted

They have been known to issue hundreds if not thousands of tags for game animals that were basically eradicated from a unit several years past. Time to quit relying heavily on computer "models" to assess populations.

    Draw Out Report Question

The Colo computer system seems like it was built back before electricity. Doesn't matter if it's Parks and Wildlife or Motor Vehicles or Dept. of Regulatory Agencies or any of it. Too damn hard to work it. None of them are user friendly. I just used the Florida system for Boat and car...
