    Hunting opportunity in Maui

Before you go to Maui you will need to get a non-residence exemption number before you get a license. After you have that number then you can get a hunting license. Don't wait to do this. Hawaiian government officials aren't as fast or efficient as our mainland ones. It may take longer than...

    Cooler Question

I have the 150 Grizzly and I think it is well worth the money. The Grizzly looks more durable than the Igloo to me.

    Drew NV 231 Deer

This could be the first time I have ever heard somebody wonder if they should turn in a 231 tag and hope for a better one next year. You could ask Randy Ulmer if he would like it.

I don't think they fix flats. I may be wrong but they just sell gas. You may have to drive to Gerlach or Winnemucca. Easier to bring spares than to drive 3-4 hours round trip to fix a flat. That is why I always bring a sat phone up there. You generally won't have cell phone service and you...

Summit Lake isn't close to anything. Your best bet for fuel, hotel and a great bar is Denio Junction. For a full store you better bring everything you need and a Yeti or Grizzly cooler. This is where those coolers are worth every penny. You can't just run down to the store and get more ice...

Is the Grand Slam/Ovis show worth it?

I think Scheels has bowtech. Also House of Arrows is a dedicated bow shop. Going to the Grand Slam show you at least have the chance at a cheap auction hunt.

Is the Grand Slam/Ovis show worth it?

you may want to come for the Wild Sheep Foundation meeting next week instead. The Grand Slam/Ovis takes about 20 minutes to see everything. The WSF has a lot more to see and do and is only $15.

    Sheep equipment

Also, don't forget to pack a paperback book. You will most likely get stuck in your tent for a day or 5 due to weather. At the beginning of August 2011 I was snowed in for 4 days. Since there is no wood to start a fire you are confined to the tent. A good book sure helps pass the time.

    Sheep equipment

One thing to keep in mind for a late Aug early Sept NWT hunt is you will get rained on. Make sure your gear can keep you warm and safe even if it rains and snows the whole time. For a pack I like my Kifaru Bikini frame and DT1 bag. It can carry all the gear you will need and still have room...

    Kifaru pack/frame choices

I would recommend calling Aron Snyder. His number is posted on the Kifaru site. He could explain the perfect setup for you. He also has videos posted on Rokslide and youtube that show the packs and how he sets them up.

    Kifaru pack/frame choices

I don't know how to rotate the pic so turn your head to the side. Here is my 7 year old daughter in the pack. As you can see there is a lot of room to pack whatever you need.

    Kifaru pack/frame choices

For the meat pushing through and jamming into my back I guess that could happen but I haven't experienced it. I packed out a couple mule deer this year with this pack and I don't remember ever having any discomfort from the load pushing into my back. I picked that setup for the best weight...

    Kifaru pack/frame choices

I am running the Bikini with the DT1 frame. I got that set up so I can pack out anything I want and still have a pack that compresses down for a nice day pack. The bikini frame is very comfortable while loaded heavy. It does carry the heavy weight better than my Kuiu icon 6000. I don't notice...

    nahanni butte outfitters

I have hunted with them. They run a first class operation. You will get a sheep no problem. They are pulling out some huge sheep right now. I saw a lot of nice caribou while I was there but got snowed out before I could connect. Great operation and great guys.
