Funny you say that, they said in the post on Instagram that the hunter got the tag 2 weeks before the hunt started because someone turned the tag back.

What is a drought year in Southern Utah..? 2 inches instead of 2.5..? I really don't know.

I think mule deer adapt well. Look at all those Mexico giants. I just don't think it hurts muleys that much, if at all. They love dry environments.

Its a great deer.

I’ve got a question: what conditions make for a good antler growth year?

from what I’ve seen this year everything is way more green and over grown than I’ve ever seen and I’m not sure how that would not positively benefit antler growth.

All depends on the animals genetics and desire to eat healthy. My son eats sugar for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He ain’t gonna grow very well compared to his corn-fed neighbors.

On the top is a stressed browse or grass.. which occurs more on drought years.
Next would be how bucks go into winter.. the more stress an animal has on it coming out of winter the chances of optimal antler growth greatly diminish.

IMHO, the best recipe for antler growth is a wet fall and moderate/dry spring and summer. I’m sure different regions in the US might differ a bit..

Utah muzzleloader deer which will overlap my Wyoming deer.
I'll give Utah's hunt 7 days at most, then finish in Wyoming with 7 more.
Both just GS tags, nothing flamboyant ?
