Cow bison hunting

I drew cow bison around 7 years ago. I understand the NER app/hunt. I also understand they have been migrating onto the NEW less and less each year. Cows in particular. I plan to hunt the NER but will definitely have other options in mind. A few years ago I heard about a new area they opened up? I think it was small like 1 square mile?

Let's here some ideas for where and when to hunt cow bison other then the NER. I need a good backup plan.

They moved onto the refuge this past Thursday. Earliest they've moved since 2014. A few got shot, including one really nice cow.
Excellent to hear. I hope the snow depth keeps them coming for the bison hunters. Would love one more tag to fill over there some year in the near future.

1. I will always share what I learn with fellow hunters.

2. I have spent over 1-1/2 YEARS alone backpacked in remote areas in AK and the rocky mnts. Not sure how the times I slept in a car matter?

3. Haha SS I hunt alone in griz country all the time. I hunted alone and packed my AK moose alone, 50 miles in, and did not carry my gun during any of my 9 trips carrying meat. I have bowhunted in the most griz infested areas around Yellowstone, alone, with no gun, many times - backpacked in. Not sure how you get afraid of grizzly bears from that? I have never known you to hunt alone in griz country?

Does taking cheap shots for no reason help you fill that void you feel because you are a coward?

I heard about the bison, the elk are also all over. I have access the end of Dec

It wasn't a cheap shot. Factor in all the years of points and the tag, and I would say it was a very expensive shot. But hell with that resume I'm still shocked you didn't get a ram.

1- 1/2 years is wide margin. Which is it? 1 or 1.5? Is this like the sheep age thing where you take the time and add .5 to it?

My advice, worry about drawing the tag first. And listen to the advice people give you this time compared to your last wyoming hunt.

Good Luck in the draws!

I'd contact Tag N Drag. Ralph and his crew are great! If you have flexibility to your schedule, then you can hunt when the bison are actually on the refuge.

Take your fiance along, and she can do the tourist Jackson stuff while you're out hunting.
Make it a nice winter vacation.

Just my .02 cents. Best of luck to you!

I agree for the most part but I hope they have ta least one new guide, or fired one guide from years past.
Time is the key for harvesting a cow bison in Wyoming.

I went with Tag- N- Drag in 2015, and had a great experience, there were 400 plus Buffalo, and we literally rode horses right in the middle of them, and the guide picked out one of the biggest cows and the rest is history. I probably wouldn't have been able to tell the cows from the bulls, as they are hard to judge, unless it is a really big bull, and they really stand out! They gutted and skinned it, and loaded it whole, it was 1500.00 then, well worth the price. Good Luck..

That doesn't happen now, bison got smart.
