I read on Wyoming Fish and Game website there was a 2000 max tickets to be sold. Is this for an elk tag anywhere in Wyoming? Other species?

It’s for deer or elk or antelope. Not for all three. And yes, you can hunt any unit on ground you have permission to hunt on.

But you do have to choose which unit and species you are going to hunt when you get the license.

There will be a maximum of 2,000 tickets for this tag. But there isn’t any way to predict how many tickets they will actually sell. This ticket is $50.00 which is cheaper than the other raffles. The others are $100 to $250 but have fewer maximum number of tickets.

So, are you feeling lucky? If they end up selling only 400 tickets then this ticket may be the best odds.

These tags at auction are going for $25,000 or more.

Last year one of the groups that had a tag was trying to sell 500 tickets at $100 each and they sold 220.

Another group was trying to sell 350 at $100 each and they sold 266.

Since these are $50 tickets selling 400 of them might be a good estimate.

You don't have to designate the tag as soon as you get it. You don't have to designate it until you actually go hunting if that's what you want to do

The winner picks the species, Elk, Deer or Antelope. The winner picks the unit. No hunting in Teton Park.

Ok I found out that there is a max of 2000 tickets but I doubt we will sell anywhere near that many.

I know, it’s just amazing the prices the tags are bringing.

About 2011 I had an outfitter tell me he could get a tag for about $8,000. I didn’t do it but looking back I should have.

I think about 2003-2004 time frame they were going for $5,000. I didn’t do that one either and regret it.

20 years ago $5,000 was a lot of money...

Yes, 20 years $5,000 was a lot of money but I was still working then and I could have afforded it. I did a South Africa trip in 2005 and had $10,000 or more in it with airfare for me and the wife. Dall sheep hunt in 2010, $10,000, British Columbia moose in 2012, $10,000.

But now my Social Security checks for a year wouldn’t buy a $35,000 tag.

I don’t regret any of the money I’ve spent on hunts, just regret I didn’t spend more while I was still able.

the inflation on the commissioner's tags is more than the governor's tags for sure.

last year the governor's tags avg $54K, this year $56K
last year the comm tags avg $28K, this year so far it's $39K

last year there were 72 of them, this year I think 56 so we may not be seeing them go for the $18-22k a few did last year.

several auctions have min bids in the 30s...

still it's a great tag though, and 100% tax deductible -- I'd much rather do this than pay it in taxes

Not poking at anyone but if I had 30k to waist, and was looking for a tax deduction, I would find a worthy charity that helps kids, veterans, or disabled in the outdoors.

Please bring this post back to the top in late May / early June. After NM, CO, WY, NV, UT, MT results are out and people don't have a premium tag or two for this fall they may want to consider this option.
I know I will certainly throw my name in the hat if I still have some vacation time available after the draws are done.
As a former founding chairman of our local chapter and a Life Member, I fully support the RMEF and would love to help you guys out.

Good idea. I will do that Thanks!!!!

Big choice. Outfitter or not?
outfitter. I hunted 59 a few years ago and did well with an outfitter shooting a 380. I'm concerned with shooting the biggest bull and looking for a hunt with a great group of people since I will be by myself this time.

Congratulations on getting a commissioner tag. Unit 59 with and outfitter and harvesting a 380 bull - that will be a hard one to top!!!

sorry mistype, I am not concerned with shooting the biggest bull. Just looking for a great adventure

Look for an outfitter with great private land and go archery hunt and hear 100s of bugles in a week and chase them. That sounds like an adventure too me.
