What's everybody in for now thats is done?

Cape Buffalo 0 points Greater Kudu 0 points Oryx 0 points Limpopo bushbuck 0 points 100% draw odds, I like my chances. I just hope they don’t release them from the horse trailer an hour before I get there

    Good Luck Everyone

Do you attribute this to winterkill? It is very disheartening that our goat herds are not growing by 5 to 15% every year resulting in two or three more tags each year.

    Mule Deer Proposal

Please, please don’t change the season dates!!! I am begging you!!! The only thing that should be under consideration is combining points and making the extended archery a separate hunt that costs points to draw. Option A for LL sounds reasonable.

    Mule Deer Proposal

Combining points is not a bad idea. Tampering with season dates IS a bad idea. Here is why: Take any five day hunt and add two or three days of bad weather and you are screwed. Making the extended archery hunts unlimited is a TERRIBLE idea. Here is why: The Wasatch for example has been...

WILL YOU??? HAVE YOU??? WILL YOU NOT??? SELF REGULATE???

That might not be a bad idea. Would everyone get a second, third, fourth, and fifth choice? What about the LL holders? Full refund plus an extra five points? Elkster, you wanted a proposal from Vanilla, I think this is it

WILL YOU??? HAVE YOU??? WILL YOU NOT??? SELF REGULATE???

This is a very good point!!! You cannot have a healthy deer herd without different age classes of bucks!!! If you wanted to end up with even one three year old and one four year old buck after hunting season you would probably need a minimum of twenty bucks per hundred does. You can’t manage...

    Wildlife Board Workshop

Other than their theory that lower b/d ratio equals more deer, I found their research and data to be accurate and 100% believable. I am glad they are taking a hard look at elk vs deer conflicts. With the summer range projects I would encourage all to get in, do the work and get out. There is...

If you think Berry’s scope is bad, you should see his rangefinder and two way communication system. High end scope + high end rangefinder + two way communication = Abominable Hydra that needs to have one of it’s ugly heads cut off. Talk about giving Bambi a chance

The quote says big game not deer. I believe there are cow hunts in February. “Legal Rifles will only Have Scopes with a Maximum Magnification of 4 Power!” Implementing this will result in a few more mature bucks or almost mature bucks surviving until the following hunting season. Nobody wants...

    Biology quiz

Just in case there are any academics out there with masters or doctorate degrees in wildlife biology that are taking the quiz, I want to remind you that, with the five acorns being the last forage on the winter range that elk are grazers and deer are browsers. Very important when answering...

    Biology quiz

It’s late winter 22/23. Three feet of snow on the ground. An average bull, a 20” buck, a doe and a fawn have gathered around a clump of oak brush. There is five acorns still attached to the oak brush. A little ways off, there are three coyotes eyeing up the situation. A little further off, there...

    Wasatch thoughts

More and bigger elk are not the solution to the problem, they are the problem. (Ronaldo Magnus with a twist) Knock about 6,000 out of this herd and see if we can get a half dozen decent bucks back in the unit

Thank you for posting this information for us. It’s interesting stuff. I would also add that you couldn’t hunt big game until you were sixteen until at least early eighties I think. Since most of us are too lazy, especially myself I wonder if you could dig up that kind of information on elk...

I apologize for that line, it was unfair. What is your belief, goal for the ratio. If you had to pick one ratio for every GS unit in the state, what would it be? Mine is 20 to 30 B to D and I don’t believe that ratio would result in a lower quality hunt

I drew a late Zion muzzy tag five years ago and burned 15 points I think. A cold front moved through about five days before it opened and the locals told me the deer were on the move. They were. I counted at least 150 does before I saw one with antlers. It was unbelievable. That kind of...

    Wasatch thoughts

I support Berry’s proposal and would also add a few cow tags. Those pesky elk are taking over the best deer habitat and causing their numbers to drop even more.

My guess is that bears don’t exist in significant numbers to have any real effect on deer predation in the northern half or the western half of the state. I can’t speak to the bookcliffs or other southern units. The WB has done some very good things lately like banning trail cams, baiting and...

In general they are inefficient predators. Yes they will eat fawns every chance they get. Look at the lasal. High bear density, good numbers of deer and good numbers of elk. High success rate on all three hunts for deer last year from what I remember seeing here. Also, name a county in the...

I am not buying that bear predation on fawns is much of a factor except in a few localized areas. You can’t have bear predation where bears do not exist
  26. Betterluckythangood

    Another Educational Opportunity

True on both accounts, You can’t blame elk in areas where there are none. With the predators however, I submit they already expanded their range as far as it could possibly go in Utah, at least twenty or thirty years ago, with the exception of bears which are not really predators but omnivores.

    HEY Lumpy / efa???

One big reason Niller is for more tags is probably because he is nervous a lynch mob with a noose is going to come after him and his LL here in a couple years when they figure out he is getting ten tags to their one.

    HEY Lumpy / efa???

    2023 mule deer age reports/scores
