    Unit 19

We didn't see a single elk over 4th rifle either. Supposedly the unit was hammered 2nd season and several elk were taken, so between that and the warm weather it just wasn't our time. But my son got his first deer so it was still a great trip!

    Western co fires

I have been watching the Cameron Peak fire closely (as I hunt 19), and it looks like the wind shift has helped it a bit the last couple of days, so just hoping some rain comes before those Westerly winds return in earnest.

    Looking at new boots

Cabela's just reintroduced their Iron Ridge leather hunting boots with 400 grams of thinsulate ($100). I am still wearing my 12 year-old version of these, and LOVE the bob sole in Nevada, especially with the rocks you will inevitably have to traverse. The 400 grams can sometimes be hot on...

    Youth Rifle Question

Not to complicate your thinking, but have you thought about the XPR? I ask simply because I stumbled upon an XPR Compact in 6.5 Creedmoor at CDNN Sports online for $380 + $100 rebate (so net $280). I was not looking for a compact at the time, so I passed it up. But checking it now, it looks...

    Optics Agent?

LAST EDITED ON Aug-07-17 AT 10:45PM (MST)[p]Let me know what you find out - thanks to your post, and my current need for a new <$400 scope (related to a somewhat impulse XPR in Vias purchase...), I checked them out and they had some pretty good prices on some of the scopes I am looking at. I...

    Unit 19 Youth Deer

Thanks LoneWati! That is sort of the sense I get - that if you put in the effort it could work out. I am hoping to really build a foundation for my son to learn an area and hunt every year.

    Unit 19 Youth Deer

Hi Everyone, We recently moved back to CO, just in time for my son to turn 12 and get his first tag, but we have never hunted CO. I have attended the hunter's education with my son, attended the CPW seminar on applying for the draw, called the CPW Hunt Planer hotline, and spent countless hours...

    221L Success?

Thanks! Unfortunately, I SUCK at taking pictures, so only have these two others (and he is off for a Euro mount already).

    221L Success?

LAST EDITED ON Nov-09-15 AT 02:05PM (MST)[p]I was just curious as to how the other hunters who had this hunt did. It was hot and windy over the start of the hunt (so I was both sun and wind burned!!!), but it did cool off over the last 3 days - I am hoping this started the rut for those of you...

    221-223 any success?

I wish the weather would help out - it is looking to be mighty warm for at least the start of the late season hunt.

    Second season rifle deer 221-223

I drew the late tag after you guys and am quite stoked! This is probably my last hunt in NV for quite awhile, so a great way to go out! Any information you guys are willing to share after your hunts would be greatly appreciated!

    They are up!

You'll have to let me know how the 221M goes - I drew the 221L and am pumped! I have had an extremely lucky couple of years with NV draws and hunts, and hope to keep it going!

    011,012,013 bucks??

I agree, pretty nice buck. I turned in this tag this year, mostly because I drew an elk tag for the same dates, but maybe I lucked out in doing so. Now I am wondering if I even put in for this unit next year...

    Opening morning Antelope

Congratulations! And thanks for the great write-up. I head out next weekend with my father-in-law and my son (10 - his first time hunting with us) and hope to find an Antelope. What area were you hunting?

    maps 221-223

I'm a fan of mytopo.com (http://www.mytopo.com/products/hunt-area-state.cfm?state=NV) - while a little more expensive, it puts an entire unit on one map (because it is inevitable that I want to hunt where two BLM maps meet...) and on waterproof paper.

Turning in 1 tag, make it 2?

You do get bonus points back, but you can only receive the money back if you have a medical reason, etc. You have to return the tag, so that it is in their hands, by the first day of the season the tag is for. I returned one for 075 elk last year, which apparently worked out for me!

Turning in 1 tag, make it 2?

Thanks guys, you have basically confirmed where I wanted to go with this! On turning in the deer tag, part of my thought process is that it will give me something to look forward to next year, as I would "expect" to draw something again (have quite a few points now).

Turning in 1 tag, make it 2?

So life has a funny way of piling it on, and gave me 4 NV tags this year. I know I am turning back the 011-013 late deer because it directly conflicts with my bull elk (072-074), but am wondering if I should turn back in my 031 antelope. I know I should spend all my free time scouting elk, but...

    031 Antelope

LAST EDITED ON May-28-14 AT 10:17AM (MST)[p]Wow, what a great offer NevadaJames! I might try and jump in line for this (I have a pretty good assortment of whiskey!). I have hunted this unit for deer, mostly out of Denio, but now have a lope tag here and haven't been through the area since...

    Nv 075 elk rifle

cbdmwood, I was excited about this hunt as well, and know there are good elk here. What deflated me was that they tripled the total tags given over last year, and quadrupled the tags given for my late season hunt, and the number of tags given actually exceeds the estimated number of elk in the...

    Nv 075 elk rifle

Good luck! For me, it came down to the funny math they employed this year (e.g., giving out more tags than estimated bulls).

    Nv 075 elk rifle

I'm turning in my 075 tag - meant to do it today but forgot it at home. My understanding is they like the private areas until late season.

    area 72-74 for elk

htnfool, I have a late tag for 075, and your "30 miles" reference appears close to that area - any insight you would be willing to share for that area? I have so far been focusing my research on the southern end, but the Northern end looks to have much easier private/public access. Thanks for...

075 Elk, Rifle, Helping Old Friend

I, too, would love any information on 075. It sounds like the most valuable information could be simply who to talk to to get access. ANY information is extremely appreciated. Thanks.
