    Wyo elk draw date ?

There may be wayyyy more upsides from your perspective, but it is an unfortunate move from my perspective. Time is my limiting factor when it comes to hunting. The early Wyoming draw helped me reduce the chance of doubling up on hunts and potentially wasting points on a hunt that I wouldn't be...

    6.5 Creedmoor and elk

Put a good bullet in it and use it. More than enough juice as long as you don't push it way out there. My wife took her bull this year with Barnes Vor-tx ammo using the 120gr TTSX bullet in her 7mm-08. 182 yard shot, down in 40 yards. A good bullet placed where it needs to be does wonders.

Did they change the number of tags in 7W? The regs show 175 archery bull tags.

    Tag Prices

Life is short and the number of elk seasons for anyone is unknown and finite, do it while you can. But yes, the prices are getting hard to swallow.

What is a shooter to you

It depends on the hunt and situation, but most of the time "size" isn't driving my decision even though I've been lucky enough to take some good bulls. My last bull didn't score that great as a 5x5 but he was an old guy with great mass and fantastic fronts, and when I saw him on the first day...

    Field Judge This One?

The back end of that bull is beautiful. Awesome tails. Good width. Decent fronts. I suck at judging mass. I have to guess he's at least 360. If my wife sees a replica of him this fall, I sure hope she shoots it. Plus he looks like he tastes good :).

    Snake Bite

I've been fortunate to hunt elk somewhere every year for the last 23 years. I have yet to run into a rattle snake in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, or Wyoming. Now Montana, that's a different story. Had a couple of times walking out at dusk where their rattle made me check my shorts...

Non Res LE Elk Tag Question

LAST EDITED ON May-22-17 AT 01:18PM (MST)[p]LAST EDITED ON May-22-17 AT 01:10?PM (MST) For perspective. If I have the numbers correct, in 2016 there where 1580 applicants for the San Juan rifle elk tag. If you estimate the odds by using just 1/1580, this is a terrible 0.06%. If you calculate...

    Surrendered tag... it hurts.

    >sludge it has not been "turned >in" until you have it >in hand and send it >back....still time to reconsider. Actually, when I called UDW to verify what forms were needed, the individual I talked to just took all my information down and said that they would handle it seeing that the tag...

Do you launch an arrow or not? (video)

The score isn't always everything. This bull has fantastic character and mass. Plus you can tell he has been the boss of the mountain at one time. Shooting this guy would be a heck of an accomplishment with a bow. Shot wise, when he turns and looks away, at twenty yards and in, I'm taking...

    Surrendered tag... it hurts.

Turned in an archery bull elk Central Manti tag. I pulled another archery elk tag in AZ and would not be able to dedicate two weeks to the Utah hunt at the end of the season like I originally planned. After 14 years of applying, just don't want to do a short hunt. Hope someone on here is the...

    Thoughts on Score

Both very nice bulls. Would love a chance at either. I like the 7x7(8), I'll go with 373 1/16. The second looks like he could fill out nicely. 359 1/8 when he's done. PM me their coordinates and I'll keep an eye on them for you. :)

Archery elk this year, or wait a year?

HorseCreek,I just might do that. I've traded PM's with you in the past when I was trying to get into the Wasatch. Applied twice but didn't draw. Switching gears now to the Dutton, Fish Lake, or Manti.

Archery elk this year, or wait a year?

Thanks everyone for the input. J939K, I may have a chance for Dutton, Manti, La Sal La Sal, Panguitch, and Fish Lake. Would also draw Wasatch. Right now trying to decide whether to put in for the Dutton, Manti, or Fish Lake. If I can't decide, I'll just put in for the Beaver or Pahvant and...

Archery elk this year, or wait a year?

Let me add that I hunt elk for two weeks every year somewhere. The good Lord willing, I will be hunting somewhere as usual. So I guess what I'm trying to decide is whether it's a good decision after waiting 12 years, to hunt this early of a date. The decision really isn't whether I hunt or...

Archery elk this year, or wait a year?

I've seen a little conversation in a few threads about the early archery dates this year versus next year's later dates (5 days later I believe). I'm sitting on 12 NR elk points and am considering trying to draw a tag this year. The draw reports indicate that I should have a pretty good chance...

    Hunting after losing hearing.

The problem I have in my case is that I have almost complete hearing loss of high frequency sound. I can be 2 feet away from my home phone and not hear it ring. Same thing with many other high pitch sounds. Last fall I was with my buddy elk hunting and he said the bulls where just screaming...

    Hunting after losing hearing.

30Hart, How bad is your hearing loss? What type and brand of hearing aid are you using? Is it able to filter out background and wind noise successfully? Is it tuned specifically for high pitch elk sounds? Would appreciate any info. Thanks in advance.

    Hunting after losing hearing.

Brian, Appreciate it. I lost hearing in the first ear a year and eight months ago. Perfect hearing one night, woke up the next morning with nothing in one ear. It slowly improved from 5% to 25% on lower toned sounds. High toned sounds are mostly gone. I hunted this way in 13. Could still...

    Hunting after losing hearing.

This past season was my first year elk hunting after losing about 70% of my hearing literally overnight. It was hard in many ways. I can no longer hear the high pitch part of a bugle, so listening for bugles to locate elk no longer works. If they're inside of 100 yards, I can sometimes hear...

    palmated and clubbed bull

Shot this archery bull at 15 yards after getting in on him and his cows. Had three other bulls bugling, all within 100 yards. He made the mistake of making a swing to check that he had all his cows and ran into me. First palmated bull that I've personally ever seen while hunting. Palmated on...

    Simplified Carcass Tagging?

I can see it saving them a lot of money, but it seems a valid argument that it will make it easier for people that have no issue with breaking the law. As far as tracking how many times a tag is printed, they really can't, as the tag can be saved as a PDF and printed from any computer...

    Unit 36 elk packer?

Gearing up for my 2nd season archery hunt. Would like to have a couple phone numbers for outfits that can pack out an elk in Unit 36 if I need it. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
