I dont think the oak creek was ever closed, it was a 3 pt and better unit for a few years tho.

Here is a buck that was killed on the oak creek unit in 2016, 36in wide 12x9. Tooth data from the dwr said this buck was 3 1/2 years old. I’m not really sure how accurate tooth data really is.

All I can say is there is no replacement for age. 5 to 8 years old seems to be the magic spot to produce big deer.

But it won’t put more mature bucks on the landscape because those 400 extra bucks will be dead on the early and late rifle hunts anyways. We are just saving bucks for the rifle hunters that’s all it will do.
