Idaho Fish and Game Commissioner Steps Down

Posting pics was very, very, very, poor judgement. Good chance this is not an isolated event. Is this the guy you want running the show? Three esses???

    Unit 40

I find it a wonderful management strategy. Yes, many 1 year old forkies and spikes are taken. I'm no biologist and I don't know how long it takes to get rid of a trait but the big forkies are still there. There are several big forked horns, 2X3s, and 2X4s taken every year. I shot a 26"...

    F&G proposing rule changes...

Sounds like more ambiguous laws in the making. I call BS on the cell phone rule. I've shot elk and hiked to a place I can get coverage to rally the troops to come haul out my elk. Is this an aid to hunting??? If history holds true they will not define it and it will be left to the warden to...

375 H&H for Elk, Making the switch.

I'm jealous. I had my hands on a pre-64 .375 and also one of the last model 70's from Connecticut in .375. Both opportunities arose when the check book said no. You should wallup the wapiti.

375 H&H for Elk, Making the switch.

Designed in 1912. The God Father of belted magnums. Tons of rich history. I loved reading Capstick's books and he was fond of it. Why anyone would care to embrace a rifle with such a heritage and legacy is beyond me.

375 H&H for Elk, Making the switch.

Many years ago I read a well written article from a guy who had done a great deal of culling work around yellowstone. His two rifles were an 06 and a .375. The gist of the artice was a comparison between the two calibers for elk. He did his best to control for shot placement and range. The...

375 H&H for Elk, Making the switch.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-16-16 AT 07:42PM (MST)[p]Many hunters do but not at all the point. Just pointing out that different bullets transfer energy differently. People have different preferences and different experiences. My experience with bullets that retain 99% of their mass is similar to that...

375 H&H for Elk, Making the switch.

Before going that route I'd try a heavier bullet. High velocity coupled with high bullet weight retention can lead to bullet pass through with much of the energy staying with the bullet rather than being expended in the critter. I've switched to 200 grain accubonds many seasons ago and...

    grouping?

Flyers are frustrating. I've dealt with the proble a few times. One rifle had a bur on the muzzle - recrowning helped. One simply needed free floating and bedding. The last was copper build up in the barrel. I fixed a couple by trading them in for different rifles. Hard to shoulder a rifle...

    new gun decisions

28 nosler will be an expensive beast to shoot. To my knowledge, Nosler brass is all that's available and its over 2 bucks each. But.....it looks like one helluva round. Beltless and up to 300 fps faster than the AI with similar bullets. I'm a fan of heavier bullets but I'd love to chase...

    300 Weatherby Mag.

If you plan on shooting elk I'd consider a 200 grain bullet. I use the 200 gr. AB and will shoot nothing else from the 300 for elk. If you can get 2800 fps out of it (should be no problem) the ballistics of the bullet match perfectly with the Leupold B&C scope reticle. Great combo.

Revised Controlled Hunt Wait Periods - IDFG July 7 Meeting

IDFG - your survey is flawed. Your statistics assume that the extended wait time will not influence application choices. Hunters may (and likely will) revise their controlled hunt application choices if the cost of a successful draw is an extended wait period. A marginal tag may not be...

I don't remember which model they were, but I paid close to 300 bucks for them at Cabelas. I have a narrow foot and when going downhill my foot would slide forward and hit my toes. To avoid this I tightened the laces, but I had to lace them so tight it would imprint the top of the shoe on my...
