While I was in the southern portion for my Cow tag last year I will say it was a fun hunt. I saw a few others on opening day but did not see a soul for many days after. I'll be on the 231 side of Nevada for the cow hunt this year but I'm sure it'll be just as fun!

I'll be up there this fall for the archery hunt and I'm happy to share what I see. I generally focus on the areas around the fields but I'll shoot the first thing within 40 yards with horns.

I had a cow elk tag there last november and loved it. I was there for 5 days and I did see deer at least once a day, normally in the early dawn. I was farther south from where you are looking. The deer weren't huge but still nice.

Just got back from my first scouting trip to the unit. Focused on a bunch of lower, 6K-7K areas and visited a bunch of springs. Definitely lots of deer around and nearly every spring was covered in elk sign. There were even elk down in the alfalfa fields in the morning, which is at like 5,200'...

I'm a huge fan of the sitka ascent pant. I own several pair in solid and camo colors. I wear the solids all year long and the camo during the archery hunts. Just this past weekend it was 101 in pioche and I was fine in my ascent pants hiking all over the place. Highly recommend.

If you already have an antlered mule deer tag can you still apply and get an antlerless tag (like for the 115 Baker Ranch hunt)?

If you have preference points from not drawing your first GS deer choice then you will now lose those if you draw any of your GS deer choices, including your last. As someone else said the change was to close the loophole in the GS deer draw and the LE Buck Deer stays the same.

I can't believe there haven't been any recommendations for the FHF bino harness. It's a stellar piece of gear, light, compact, easy to use, and bombproof. Love mine, it was worth every penny.

I'll be up on top, camping out of Posey for two weeks in mid August. I'll keep my eyes open for big bulls but if I see a spike or a big cow with my OTC archery tag I'm taking it! I'll let you know if I come across any bulls on the south-west side of the unit.
