    Antlerless proclamation

I agree, I've been pulling antlerless NR tags for years and the numbers have always shown how many res vs non res tags there are for a particular hunt. However this year the hunt planner and documents don't say anything about non resident tags. That's why I called them. I'm conveying what I was...

    Antlerless proclamation

Talked to the folks and she said that the non residents and residents are lumped together for application of the available permits. So non residents can draw the available antlerless tags. I would assume this means that all 2 point holders, resident or non resident, are on equal footing for the...

    Antlerless proclamation

So I talked to the main Utah office yesterday and the lady didn't know why there were no non-resident tags shows for doe deer. She was going to look into it and call me back. So hopefully I hear and when I do I'll update the group.

    Antlerless proclamation

So I'm not seeing any non-resident tags available for doe deer this year? Is that correct or is it a typo or are the available tags there for resident and non-resident. I've drawn doe deer a few times in the past as a non-resident but can't remember if the hunt planner showed non resident...

    8 NR General Deer Points?

At least last year there were plenty of bucks around where I was. I was at about 5-6K in elevation. I'm not sure if they had migrated or if the ones I was seeing were resident bucks. I will say there were way less does then I see in August during archery so maybe some had migrated out. I would...

    8 NR General Deer Points?

I thought so. Again I was very familiar with the area I was in. Since I usually hunt archery I'm used to being kind of alone out there in the center of the unit. With the early rifle I was unprepared for how many people I saw, some actually hunting, and lots driving around scouting for the next...

    Southwest desert mule deer?

I'd echo the same comments the others have. I had a late cow elk tag there in November a few years ago and was there, camping, for 7 days straight. I was hard at work scouting an hour before dawn and after sunset every day. I routinely hunt the Nevada side of this unit (#231 archery deer) so I...

    8 NR General Deer Points?

I burned 5 non res on an early rifle deer in pine valley mainly because I've hunted it a bunch in archery. Was worth it.

    Pine Valley Mule Deer

I burned 5 points for the same tag this year. I archery hunted this unit a few years ago and essentially plan to go to the same place I did for the archery. I also may hike to the top and hunt up there since the one night I spent up there I was able to glass up a number of high quality bucks...

January cow elk, southwest desert, northwest part.

While I was in the southern portion for my Cow tag last year I will say it was a fun hunt. I saw a few others on opening day but did not see a soul for many days after. I'll be on the 231 side of Nevada for the cow hunt this year but I'm sure it'll be just as fun!

    Unit 231 Junior Mule Deer

I'll be up there this fall for the archery hunt and I'm happy to share what I see. I generally focus on the areas around the fields but I'll shoot the first thing within 40 yards with horns.

    SW Desert General deer

I had a cow elk tag there last november and loved it. I was there for 5 days and I did see deer at least once a day, normally in the early dawn. I was farther south from where you are looking. The deer weren't huge but still nice.

    231 Deer

Just got back from my first scouting trip to the unit. Focused on a bunch of lower, 6K-7K areas and visited a bunch of springs. Definitely lots of deer around and nearly every spring was covered in elk sign. There were even elk down in the alfalfa fields in the morning, which is at like 5,200'...

    Warm weather pants

I'm a huge fan of the sitka ascent pant. I own several pair in solid and camo colors. I wear the solids all year long and the camo during the archery hunts. Just this past weekend it was 101 in pioche and I was fine in my ascent pants hiking all over the place. Highly recommend.

    New point rules???

If you have preference points from not drawing your first GS deer choice then you will now lose those if you draw any of your GS deer choices, including your last. As someone else said the change was to close the loophole in the GS deer draw and the LE Buck Deer stays the same.

    Bino Cases

I can't believe there haven't been any recommendations for the FHF bino harness. It's a stellar piece of gear, light, compact, easy to use, and bombproof. Love mine, it was worth every penny.

I'll be up on top, camping out of Posey for two weeks in mid August. I'll keep my eyes open for big bulls but if I see a spike or a big cow with my OTC archery tag I'm taking it! I'll let you know if I come across any bulls on the south-west side of the unit.

    Sleeping pad suggestions

I'd suggest the Klymit luxe. I'm a big 6'-1" and 270 and a side sleeper and I always find myself needing a wider pad. The luxe is 30" wide and inflates to a cush 4.5" thick but only weighs 1.5#'s. I love it. It's body mapped but it's the first pad to really let me get a good nights rest. It can...
