    Big boots

I wear a size 15, have flat feet and bad ankles. I've had excellent luck with Lathrop and Sons. Their boots and insoles are so good I bought an extra pair for backup. I do not want to ever not have a pair ready to go. Hope this helps.

    Oregon Muzzle loader?

Thanks for the info. It appears that the supply issue is affecting muzzleloaders too. Most are out of stock, but at least I now know what to look for. I may have to dust off my old Hawken.

    Oregon Muzzle loader?

Can anyone recommend an Oregon legal muzzle loader and bullet combo? I don't believe my in line is legal and my old Hawkin leaves a lot to be desired. The regulations are less than clear.

    Tule Elk Management Bull raffle

What a great opportunity for a Tule Elk. It's very difficult to draw a Tule elk tag, and California is the only place you can get a Tule elk. I will definitely be buying some tickets. Thanks for offering this hunt.

    Tripod for the 15's

I recently bought one from Camofire that is carbon fiber, pretty light, good for sitting only, and cost about $150. They call it the Treeline, but it looks quite a bit like a vortex one?? I usually use a medium Outdoorsman, but it's too heavy and too much $$ for a backpack tripod. Hope this helps.

    Maven B.5 18x56??

I have the Maven 18s and really like them. They are excellent for long periods of glassing. I've used them in Mexico, the Yukon, and Nevada with pretty good results out to about 2- 2 1/2 miles. at long range you can't beat a big spotting scope, but for 90% of my glassing the big binos are...

    Rookie needs advice

Before your hunt, contact your Outfitter about shipping your trophies home. He will most likely have a taxidermist/expediter he uses. If you only have a sheep and cape, it is possible to put it in a duffle bag and check it as excess baggage. But it is difficult to coordinate getting the horns...

    Rookie needs advice

Bob, In my previous message I forgot to mention Gators. They protect your lower legs and boots in stream crossings, rock shale, brush, and snow. I like the OutDoor Research Crocodile gators. Mine are black, I think they might make a different color but I have never had a problem with the...

    Rookie needs advice

Bob, The guys before me hit the nail right on the head, here is my 2 cents worth, learned the hard way: Boots, Lathrop and Sons Mtn. Hunter are the best boots I have ever had. In fact I ordered a second pair so I would never be without them. Rifle, shoot what you are comfortable with, lighter...

    Hunting boots

I'm on my third pair of Hanwag Alaska GTX boots. I wore them on sheep, elk, antelope, and mule deer hunts last fall and they were excellent. They are extremely supportive and I never have foot problems with them. They are almost as stiff as plastic mountaineering boots, but way more comfortabel.

    kimber mountain acsent

I had a similar problem with a Kimber in 300WSM. Premium factory loads would group about 4-5 inches and MANY handloads with different bullets and powders weren't much better at 3 inches. I sent it back to Kimber and they said is was fine?? I got rid of the piece of S. and bought a Remington...

    Bullet consistency advice

When I got my 300 I tried a couple of brands and had very good luck with 180 grain Nosler Accubonds. In fact the factory Accubonds were so good that I copied the the exact load in my reloads. I've used the 180 Accubonds on everything from small African antelope to a very big Alaskan-Yukon...

    Custom turrets

I have the kenton turrets on several rifles, and one on my wife's rifle. They work great and I have found them to be very accurate as long as you verify your load at known distances with a range finder. It really builds up your confidence when you know the range and dial it up. I have found...

    New website help

I was able to log on the new site and apply a couple of days ago. I think the key is that you have to log onto the new site and create an account, with a log in name (email address) and a password, they still used my old password? I ran into a couple of stumbling blocks that I didn't...

    Tripods

I agree with the other guys on the Outdoorsman tripod. I use the medium and am very pleased with it. It is solid, built like an anvil, and easy to use. I have a pile of other tripods I collected through the years trying to save weight and $$$. I could of and should have saved the time and...

    Kimber 84L mountain rifle

I had a Kimber 84 a while back and I was very disappointed with the accuracy. It would not shoot any factory or multiple handloads less than 2 MOA. I sent it back to Kimber and they told me it was within their specs? It was a beautiful and light rifle that just would not shoot. Several other...

    Tents

A buddy of mine is a confirmed wall tent guy, until he bought the Cabela's Alaknak. He uses it in late Nov. hunts in Idaho and some other hunts in Oregon and Nevada. He swears by the Alaknak, telling me it sets up easier, is weather proof and dries quickly. He has the front area vestibule and...

    Leica 1600-B or 1000-R

I upgraded from an old 1200 to a new 1600-b and I am very happy with it. That being said, the 1600-b drove me nuts trying to figure it out. The instructions are printed in several languages, so they leave out a number of details. I thought that I could not get the angle compensation to work...

    Bino Questions

I have a pair of 8x30 Swarovski binos that are over 30 years old. I sent them back for repairs 3 years ago and they rebuilt and replaced everything including making them waterproof, which they weren't before. They charged me about $140.00 for this service and they are better than before. Last...

    U. S. Customs and Border Protection

A couple of months ago Customs & BP was going to implement a new electronic export permit procedure that hunters would need to comply with to take their firearms out of the USA. They "temporarily" suspended the requirement as it was very cumbersome and had lots of problems. Has anyone heard...

    leica adapter

The Outdoorsmans has a better set up. I use their 42mm binocular adapter on my Leicas. Mine is set up for their tripod with the shoe plate adapter, but the compression adapter will fit the threads on all tripods. This is very slick and the second one that I bought, lost the first one. You...

    Accubonds On Lighter Game

I use the 180 Accubond in my .300WSM at 2950fps and have taken deer, elk, hogs, antelope and 3 rams with that load. Last August I took a Stone Ram at 744 yards with that load and it performed perfectly. It exited the ram after going through both shoulders and it may still be going? I think...

    swaroski repair

Last year I sent in an old pair of Swarovski 8x30s that weren't as clear as they used to be. Swarovski replaced the lenses, all internal parts, new eye cups and even made them water proof. I don't remember how much they charged me, but it wasn't much more than $130.00. The service was great...

    Rear Peep

I tried the Williams peep on my TC Omega and had problems with it. I ordered a rear peep sight from E. Arthur Brown Co., www.eabco.com 320 834 3000 and it works very well. The rear sight comes on a rib that also accepts scope rings so you can work up loads with the scope and then take it off...

    Sleeping pad suggestions

I bought a Big Agnes Air Core last year and really like it. It's about 76" long and about 3.5" thick and very comfortable. I punched a hole in it and they replaced it with no questions asked. I also use a Thermarest Neo Air pad on backpack hunts where the weight is important. The Thermarest...
