Might as well get this started

Y’all , we post these things in good humor, but also with self-experienced validity. I’ve been the recipient of many members gracious help. I try to help others on here whenever possible. That’s part of the community and stewardship we sportmen share. However, as mentioned above, there is SO...

Happens all too often muleylover; actually got a little Christmas with mine this year; drew a unit 15 cow elk tag. No gripping from me.

Might as well get this started

Well, draw results are out so I figured now is as good a time as ever… If I could get everyone’s frequented spots they’ve ever harvested a big game animal, favorite camping spots, and the location your wives will be at when your away hunting I’d much appreciate it. Not looking for anyone’s...

    Unit 52 Antlerless elk

Awesome! Congratulations to your daughter on keeping the freezer full and straight shooting. See the storm this weekend brought the snow in but from the looks of it not the feet that can often drop overnight.

    Youth elk unit 13 11/25-11/29

Update: Well, they’re calling it after this evening stalk. Went to another area last night I had recommended and saw cow elk right off the forest road just 6 minutes after legal shooting hours 🤷‍♂️. Sounds like his boy enjoyed his first experience hunting for himself and not just tagging along...

    Youth elk unit 13 11/25-11/29

Hey y’all. I recommend this leftover youth tag for my buddies boy. I’ve hunted this unit several times in years past and saw healthy numbers of elk. Sent him all my gps coordinates for my honey holes and they aren’t seeing anything. Sounds like his boy is having fun as it’s his first hunt he’s...

    Down to the last second

Awesome bull Paul! Has some length on those fourths (knifes)! Definitely tip my hat; when you’re that deep in animals it take discipline and patience to hold for an ethical shot.

That is very cool Mozey. Maybe you can use them when you follow up your CDT venture with the Appalachian Trail. Come back 20lbs more than when you started.

    Unit 27 Muzzle Loader

Hey Metzger, Mule deer are a much more straightforward hunt for this unit than coues (actually that’s pretty much always the case). The mule range in the lower elevation (draws and washes). Be aware some have had camp issues with the people coming across the border; though I never have. There...

    Be Careful in Albuquerque!

I’m born and raised NM. My family comes from rural NM; ranching and working hard their whole lives. They’ve raised God fearing, hard working, and respectful people. Many of us have attempted a stent in one of the major metros and DD’d out in short order. I’d say my personal family has remained...

Quick post about the knife in the photo. The blade was forged and made by cousin Curtis Cordova of Truchas, NM. He is an amazingly talented man who pours himself into whatever he does. He has worked continuously to grow and develop his forging and crafting skills. He owns and operates Mountain...

    Locker & Taxidermist advice needed

I will throw another recommendation for Geno! I recall when we were both working at CVI and he was working on progressing his craft with taxidermy. Today he is one of the best in the area and the time and effort he spends to continually develop is impressive. I wouldn’t hesitate and he is as...

CaHunter I will post later about the knife. I do want to share the story behind it. As far as the mount, I’ve never been one for mounts. No objections to it just most likely never felt I had the available funds as anytime I’ve had the. It could go to more needful things. Definitely would if I...

Haven’t been up there in a while, but if the Chile Line Depot is still open their food is AWESOME! Fuel is a drive anyway you go (Chama, Taos, Ojo, etc.) but Taos is good if you have other camp needs/supplies.

Hunt that unit often. Depending where in 17 you plant to hunt it will be a long morning drive but is definitely feasible.
