CVA paramount vs CVA accura v2 lrh

Excellent strategy Willard. The Paramount would probably be better for longer range shooting based on reviews I've read. I shoot a 50 cal Accura and it shoots about an inch group 1t 100 yards. My max range on game is 250 yards. Based on ballistic calculators my bullet will strike with enough...

    Picked up a .45cal!

I have an old .50 firebolt it shoots pretty good out to 200yds. It has a 1:32 twist. I never knew they made a .45. Cool rifle.

    My muzzleloader

Pretty cool. Pretty sure CVA just came out with a .45 that is capable of shooting 140 grains by volume of BH209...not sure what that would actually be by weight.

Surprise! Your hunting fees are going up ...

In all reality $65 isn't going to 'make or break' anyone who's paying the big bucks anyways to apply for and hunt in NM. Got to keep things in perspective. Cost of travel, cost of a box of shells, cost of equipment, cost of outfitter...etc. Keep smiling and Merry Christmas.

    200 Yard Muzzleloader Shots?

    CVA Accura, 110 grain 777, 250 Grain Barnes TMZ. 100yds +2.5 160yds 0 200yds -7 Rifle will shoot about a 1" group at 100yds and 2" at 200yds if I do my part.

    Caliber Recommendation

Since you mostly hunt deer I would say 270wsm. I've always wanted one but never got around to buying one. It will handle elk in a pinch, as my plain jane 270 win. seems to just fine on elk too.

    Cva ramrod field loading?

At the range and for cleaning I use a dedicated range rod (CVA Trophy ramrod). The range rod is non-abrasive and much easier to use than the rod that comes with the gun. When hunting make the first shot count and you'll have all the time in the world to reload. I use the rod that comes with...

from what I have experienced 777 should give higher velocities than pyrodex given the same volume.

    Rem Core-lokt ammo

A little off topic, but it would be awesome to read a hunting story where some average hunter killed an awesome buck (or other big game) with a regular cartridge (.30-06, .270 Win, etc) at an average range, with a bullet and rifle that most guys shoot. It's exhausting reading about all the...

    Muzzy Bullet ?

250 grain barnes tmz has worked great for me on deer and elk. I plan to use them again this fall. Plenty accurate at 300 yards but the wind messes with it too much at that range. I feel full confident at 250 yards

    Rem Core-lokt ammo

I've killed deer and elk with core-lokts. They aren't the toughest or most aerodynamic but the deer or elk didn't know that.

"Best" all around cartridge for kids?

My first big game rifle was a .270 Win. I have kill three cow elk, a bull elk, javelina, pronghorn, oryx, mule deer. I like the higher velocity, light recoil, and ammo availability. The rifle is 22 years old and is still my go to gun to this day. My second choice would be a 7mm-08. Good luck

    Best under $400

Shop around. You should be able to find an Accura for under $400. I couldn't be happier with mine. I feel like it's an extension of my right hand. Deadly accurate and I have full confidence in it. It has never let me down on several mule deer and a bull elk. Mine shoots really well with...

BH209 will not work in that gun. I would use the heaviest conical your gun will shoot. The Barnes may work if your rate of twist is fast enough. Good luck.
