A bullet that i don't recommend, is the Gunwerks 168 grain in a 7-saum. My Grandson shot a raghorn 5x6 5 times before it finally died, lung shots, and finally a neck shot to put him down, at 240 yards.

Great story, and an exceptional bull, and that unit does hold some dandies, and private land is a problem!

Founder how was the elk population this year as compared to previous years?

I just got my latest Eastman's magazine, and there were two magazine type advertisement's almost as big as the magazine, and i'm sure when i open the magazine a third of it will be more advertisement's and other worthless information. I'm done with Eastman's for ever!!

I will be cancelling my Eastman's magazine subscription when it run's out. I have been a subscriber since day one, but all you get now is a lot of advertisements, and not much content. I still have some of the old magazines, and there is no comparison!!

I f you don't have access to a jet boat, like was said before drive to the top of Pittsburg Saddle and camp at Pittsburg Landing, and hunt the ridges and try and get a leftover elk tag in the second draw, you will see alot of elk, and if you can shoot a whitetail on that tag, i would do that...

I would hunt the first week, and the last week for sure, and if you have time spend at least 5 days scouting the week before opener!

I'm guess an old Guy, and would tag that tag any day, and hunt the last 3- days of the season, i know where they pile up!!

That unit had a 60% kill on 6-points in 2022, so it looks like you will have a good hunt. I'm not familiar with unit 30, but have hunted 36A, 48, 49, and 44, and i would say hunt the first week. Good Luck.
