My dad drew a rifle deer tag this year. We have been down there on 3 different scouting trips and plan on 2 more before the hunt. We have seen alot of decent deer but nothing huge by any means. My question is for those that know the unit and have been down there this year, is this a below aveage...
I know him. He lives there on the unit. The reason you probably are not finding much on him through a search is because they haven't been a licensed guiding service for much more than a few years now if I remember correctly. I will say that he has hunted that unit his whole life and spends more...
I was going through some of my scouting pics and was looking at these 2 bucks. I am trying to decide which one is the bigger of the two. The 5x4 is heavier but more of a 3x4 frame. The 4x4 has decent forks but doesnt have much mass. Which one would you take or would they both walk? Also the 5x4...
I had the 11-33. I really liked how compact it was but I found that i wanted extra magnification. If you could swing it I would personally get the 22-48. The extra weight/bulk was worth the trade off for me.
Thanks for your insight Boomer! That video is freaking sweet! you clearly have a good grip on things. Hopefully in the upcoming months I will have some bucks of that caliber to post up as well. Thanks again man
Thanks Founder! I Just read a couple articles you wrote After my initial post. There is a ton of great info in there That I will take to heart! I know its a little early yet but cant wait to get up there and try to figure things out!
So I think this year my dad and I should draw a Wyoming deer tag, and have the opportunity to hunt them in the high country. We will be backpacking in and camping for our hunt(assuming we draw). My question is for those of you that do this type of hunting, when pre-season scouting how long do...
Congrats on the awesome tag. I grew up in that country and still hunt it every year. That mountain range is my favorite, but I am a little biased. I don't know what size of toy hauler you have but you can get about anything up Fairview Canyon as it is a good paved road. from there you can camp...
I ended up getting the swaro case as well, but couldn't agree more with you about the price of the cover being a little excessive for what it is. Thanks for the reply.
I could settle for something like that this year! All joking aside I should have points to draw Wyoming this year...Cant wait to get up and do some pre season scouting! Thanks for sharing the awesome clip!
I need to get a stay on cover for my swaro atx. Just wondering if anyone knows if the only option is made by Swarovski? If not who else is making them? Appreciate any info!
I have no problem with a guy trying to make some cash doing something he loves. Hell I may even give him a shout next year if my scouting doesn't go as planned. I do feel that calling a guy an "idiot" then misspelling words like "would" and "Question" is kind of lame. just my two cents.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will be picking my scope up within a couple of weeks and it's nice to know there are more options than what sportsmans warehouse or cabelas has to offer.
Here in the next month or so I am going to be getting a new spotting scope to take on some back pack hunts. I have done a lot of research on the spotting scope but have no clue what tripod/head to use. I was wondering what some of you are using and the pros and cons of them. I am going to be...
I have the accura V2. I have had really good luck using 110 grain BH 209, with a 290 gr. Barnes TEZ. Also make sure you are using a shotgun primer. Hope that helps.

Haha! Yeah at 7, 5, and 1 I tend to be the pack mule....they are coming along nicely though.
Thanks all for sharing your info, this helps a lot. Sounds like well trained mules would be the way to go. I have a lot of gear I need to invest in first as well as gain all the info I can prior to getting them so I can do things right. Again thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Just curious to hear what your opinions and preferences are on the two. I have never owned either, but have recently moved to a area that will allow me to have them. I would be using them to do some pack in hunts as well as camping trips through out the year. I do have 3 young boys I would love...
This unit is where I grew up hunting and still do. Honestly you will find animals about wherever you go on the mountain. North or south. Like mentioned, pick a general area and focus your scouting on that general spot as the unit is too big to try and learn all in a year. Try to find high...

That's exactly where we put him at!
LAST EDITED ON Mar-27-17 AT 09:06AM (MST) by Founder (admin)[p]I was just going through some of my video from last year and came across this one. Is this a bull you would shoot on the opener of a LE hunt and what would you score him at? Sorry for the shaky video...and the terrible commentating...
This is my first year putting in for Colorado. I know that I wont be able to hunt this fall and was wanting to just get points. My question is after I input all my info for elk it tells me that I have applied for a point for antlerless elk not for bull elk, and only charges me $484. Is this just...
I don't know how much points it takes to draw what tags for a NR. I will say that for me (a resident) I would probably use 15 points elsewhere. Having said that there are some good Bulls up there, just maybe a little more sparse than some other units.
I have some family that has told me that they have located 2 very nice Bulls, as well a handful of smaller ones where we hunted them on the muzzy hunt. If you are still looking for help when you get this let me know and we would be glad to try to get you on one of these bigger Bulls.
My family and I have been watching some good Bulls this year. We haven't been able to connect on any yet...so if anyone has a late manti tag and would like a hand we have got some studs located! Just itchin to get out and get one down!
I bought the cva v2 last year for my big bull hunt. After playing around with different combos I ended up going with 115 grains of black horn 209 with the 290 grain Barnes tez. I was shooting about 2" groups at 150 yds. I shot my bull at about 100 yds just behind the shoulder. When I was...
