I happened upon one of this outfitter’s camps last year and had a 5 minute conversation with the owner, who was in camp chopping wood. I was absolutely not impressed. Surprised at how rude he was, actually…
And of all the items listed above, Mother Nature has the biggest influence. She’ll need to cooperate for a few years in a row. I’m hoping for lots of twins dropping in June. And with the way winter is going so far, it looks like the stage is getting set for that possibility. 🙏🏼
I was there for a dozen days during 2nd and 3rd season in two quality units. Covered country. The rut was on during 3rd season. Lots of deer. Good buck to doe ratio. Did not see an older buck.

What a great experience for your family. Congratulations on a beautiful bull and a terrific hunt! We wait a long time for days like these. Very cool. Thanks for sharing…
Another related possibility I’ve been thinking about is with the relatively wetter and cooler spring/summer, the deer may be scattered out across the landscape at all elevations more than usual, rather than concentrated in certain parts of the mountain during the drier/hotter years. There seems...
Very good advice … especially once the bull is down. Good luck to your son this fall!
Any thoughts (anyone?) on an electric fence around camp? Is it a real deterrent or just marketing hype?
If you had a great elk tag in your pocket that allowed you to archery hunt trophy class bulls during the rut (and also allowed you to hunt after the rut with a rifle), but the area is known for grizzlies, what would your approach be?
The catch: you’re hunting alone.

MH, I’m sorry for your loss. Happy for the time you were able to spend with Skylar and for your friendship with him. Your influence was clearly felt by his family and by the rest of us…
