    SF088...getting crazy

If memory serves me correctly, the preference point system in Wyoming was originally set up such that 100 percent of the tags went to maximum PP holders. After a few years, it was changed to the current 75/25 process. Wouldn't seem like a big leap, given the change in parameters (# of sheep &...

License fee increase for nonresidents introduced in House

Money for Wyoming must not be the issue. The same Wildlife task force Senator that co-sponsored the NR fee increase bill also sponsored a bill to give $5.5 million or so of Wyoming money to southern states to help build a border wall and transport migrants. Maybe Wyo should start looking at...

WY task force NR fee increase

About a 55% increase for NR special elk. Damn. Glad I'm a resident. I think that they're leaving the "regular" NR licenses alone though. Catering to the rich NR for the outfitters.

    elk 54 type 1

Are you taking horses, or going on foot? If on horses, take a couple of pack horses with you when you leave camp in morning and get the elk out ASAP. Most of the people that I'm aware of that have had trouble with grizzlies is when they go back the next day to retrieve the elk. Been on a...

Are you saying that the Wyoming G&F should have anticipated a 50+% drop moose & sheep numbers compared to when the preference point system was implemented? At the time, the chief wildlife biologist for G&F (Harry Harju) told me that the preference point system wouldn't work because Wy would...

    Teton Mtn Goat Slaughter

Animals get bigger the further north you go. So, I would think that wolves are (somewhat) bigger in Canada. Look at body weight of Texas whitetail vs Alberta whitetail. "Bergmann's rule is an ecogeographical rule that states that within a broadly distributed taxonomic clade, populations and...

    cow moose Wyoming

I'm fully aware that residents don't have a pref pt for E/D/A and the non-res do. The task force is seriously talking of changing the pref pt to bonus pt for moose & sheep. I heard no talk of differentiating res from non-res in those discussions. The focus was on the resident draw, but they...

If the Wyo G&F decides to go to a weighted bonus point system in lieu of the current preference point system, would that enter into your thought process in deciding what to do? Just a thought. Most of the task force discussion has centered around changing the current system for residents. I'm...

    Wyoming landowner/outfitter tags!

Jims, the Task Force spent several hours addressing the landowner tags at the last meeting. They are forming a sub-committee to further look into the issues and will take it up again in March. The meetings are all on Youtube.

The task force is looking into correlating the percentage of tags given to landowners vs the percentage of private land in that particular unit. There was quite a bit of discussion on landowner tags at the Jan 25 meeting with several options being kicked around.

    WY Elk Unit 37

IMO 37 is a way better archery area than rifle. The elk tend to head off the face of the mountain to private land during rifle season. I don't know of any "packers" in Area 37, but I do know an outfitter in 36 (just south of 37) that guides and does some drop camps.

My understanding of the system is that a non-resident moving to Wyoming would retain their pref points and would be changed to resident bonus points when/if the system changes. The change from pref pt to bonus point affects both non-residents and residents for moose & sheep. I haven't heard...
