    Year round tent for family

Thanks everyone for the input and advice. I ended up getting the 12 x 20 alaknak and I am looking forward to using it later this month and next. If anyone has recommendations for wood stoves that will be my next purchase. I will not be packing it in so weight isn't to much of a worry.

    Maven Optics

I have had the Maven 9x45 for about a year and I have no complaints with them at all. I have hunted with others that have the Cabelas euro HD 10x42 and Razor 10x42. The other 2 that I hunt with said if they bought new binos again they would go with the mavens over what they had. They are more...

"Best" all around cartridge for kids?

I bought my kids a browning x-bolt micro midas in 6.5 creedmoor last Christmas. My oldest is 11 and weighs 65 lbs soaking wet. He can shoot this gun until I stop giving him bullets and has not complained about the recoil. Haven't had him try beyond 300 yards but out to that I couldn't ask for...

    Year round tent for family

I am not sure if what I am asking is even realistic but it's worth a try. I am looking for recommendations for a tent that my family can use from early spring to late Oct. timeframe. With my wife and 3 boys it needs to be able to handle all 5 of us and gear. We usually camp in mountain locations...

    Advice for Kids

When my boys were little I got them a savage rascal 22lr. It is a bolt action single shot like the cricket. My boys were 4 when they started shooting it and have done fine. When they started I had tripods they used to help them hold it steady so they could focus on aiming.

    Binoculars

LAST EDITED ON Mar-02-18 AT 08:20AM (MST)[p]I would suggest looking at the Maven C.1 binos. They are a bit more than the Vortex or Leupold models that others have suggested but in my opinion they are well worth the extra money and you won't be disappointed in them. You can also try them through...

    6.5 Creedmoor for kids

I am looking into getting a rifle that until yesterday would have been for my oldest boy but now may be used by my wife as well. I have heard a lot of the 6.5 creedmoor and it's performance. The thing that really has my interest is the light recoil as both my wife and boy are on the smaller...

ANyone here ever take the FE? (Fundamentals of Engineering)

Don't stress about it, that makes the test a lot harder. I had to take it as a requirement for my bachelors. I studied the sections that I had classes in and some knowledge to make sure I knew the material. If I hadn't taken a class in the subject I didn't spend anytime trying to learn it...

Need a "rookie" lab. In the market for a pup

LAST EDITED ON Dec-03-12 AT 02:33PM (MST)[p]+1 on pups from snake river retrievers. I have a 2 year old black lab from there that I don't have one complaint about. I have experienced the same as NvrEnuf, drive that never stops and never backs away from a challenge. I hunt both upland and...

    Thoughts on proposed ski area?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-19-12 AT 10:58AM (MST)[p]I realize that there is the ability to make snow, but they will have to rely on machines to make 90 % of there snow. Then that raises a question for me, do they have enough water rights to make that much snow?

    Thoughts on proposed ski area?

To me it's not a "not in my backyard" scenario. I don't know how they think there will be enough snow, that's why deer and elk winter there. When it does snow on those hills it melts quickly. It's just a really bad business plan that I don't think will succeed. From the south end of Logan I can...

    Thoughts on proposed ski area?

Where they want to put the resort it will never make it, they don't get enough snow. Those low slopes will be bare of snow even before the valley floor. Their slopes will melt off very quickly. I live here in cache valley and remember reading the proposal when it first came out and my initial...

    5 points for elk

Cache Meadowville is almost all private, if you draw there you better be friends with a rancher that will give you access to his land or be willing to pay for the access. If you don't have the access to private land you will have a hard time seeing any elk the entire hunt.

    Share some memories.

For me there is nothing better than sharing hunting stories with my Dad. fustration with new dogs.

+1 on what BIGJOHNT said, taking each one out by itself, they need to want to be with you, not with its buddy. Take them one at a time and don't worry to much about them hunting and finding birds when they are this young, just make the experience of being out fun for them. I would not introduce...

    Goose bullets

LAST EDITED ON Jan-04-12 AT 01:15PM (MST)[p]I like using the Kent faststeel, 12ga. 3" #1 shot size with 1 1/8oz results in 1560 fps and I use 3 or 4 shot for ducks. I use a modified choke and it works really well for me. Especially at $15 bucks a box compared to $20+ for blackcloud and others.

    49'ers vs Steelers

Niners D has gone 36 games without a 100 yard rusher and have not allowed a rushing TD all year, even if Ben was healthy I don't think that their rushing game would have been any different.

Are there elk at hardware ranch yet?

If you want to see cows and calves. I was up there a few days ago and there was cows, spikes and a couple raghorns. The big bulls won't show up until there is a lot more snow. If you don't live close I would give it another snow storm or two before I made the drive.

    Muzzleloader or Rifle? Limited Entry

I been on several muzzy hunts in Utah with family and friends. We have called a lot of satelite bulls in but the herd bulls seem to be set in...

    New dogs

With two puppies it will take a lot of time, with each dog individually and together, and patience. Antelope Island Buck guided by Mossback

+1 Hossblur, it is an island 15 miles in length by about 5 miles wide with no trees. On any given afternoon you can pretty much just drive out and see these deer with very little effort. These were two magnificant animals but an event I have no interest every being invovled in. I wouldn't...

    Hornady vs Barnes?

If the barnes tez will load easily in your gun I would suggest going with that bullet, this fall will be our families 3rd le elk tag in utah using barnes bullets.
