Gavin’s running his own campaign. No way Joe is running again. And yeah, Boise and Sun Valley are full of elite Libs. The majority moved here from the coasts, or just have summer homes.

    Fingers Crossed for the Deer

Went for a drive into the hills east of Idaho Falls yesterday…crazy amount of snow. Read that over 70% of the mule deer fawns collared have already died in this area, expecting near 100% mortality on fawns. Complete class missing. Not good. And I have been seeing elk regularly in and near town...

Very crowded. Lots of illegal ATV use. Not a lot of areas to get away from people.

How bad does it have to get

That’s why a point system for NR. They feel like they are getting somewhere, paying into the system in their “off years” Idaho could recover lost tag revenue by selling points. Cut tags, maintain revenue…win win. Idaho gives away more than 10% of its tags already to NR. The only thing called is...

How bad does it have to get

Point system for nonresident only. Just like Wyoming. Let them fill the coffers of the fish and game building points and waiting to hunt elk every 3-4 years. Keep resident OTC and random draw.

How bad does it have to get

Idaho needs to go to a points system and draw only for NR, just like Wyoming does. If I want to jump across the border and hunt a general elk tag in Wyoming, it takes 4 points, so once every 5 years (no accounting for creep). Why is it ok for NR to come hunt the best units of the state for elk...

Idaho sold a combined 1.6 million tags in 2021? Wow. That’s super scary ?

    Idaho elk 58

Anything near Dubois is unit 59 or maybe 59A. Birch creek drainage is 58, which is a bit of a distance from Monteview or Dubois…just saying

    Unit 66 mule deer

Used to be premium mule deer country. Elk have taken over. Low density deer numbers. I honestly don’t know why they continue a general hunt in that unit. Lots of side by sides, lots of people. Good luck

    OIL by Friday?

Yes, it really doesn’t make a difference if they come out May 13 or June 10. The date, however, has never been June 10. If they want to make it June 10, then draw the line in the sand, don’t release them early. I didn’t mind waiting 4 months to get the “unsuccessful” for Wyoming elk. They had a...

Look at that…woke up to an email with the Wyoming elk results, one day early. All I got from IDFG was an email asking me to buy super tags…maybe after the moose results?

    OIL by Friday?

Look at Wyoming elk…NR have to apply in January for a May drawing. Thing is they give a May 19 date for when results will be available. Not this guessing game “by early June” when some years it is as early as May 13 (2021). They want to have trust in their system? Be transparent and consistent...

Well, at least those who were unsuccessful got something for their money…a point!! Yay! Never mind that so did 99.9% of other applicants. Points are a racket. That’s my opinion. Random the only fair way to go

ID Residents, did the new NR tag quotas make a difference?

the sportsmans package is the problem? It is only a deal if you use all the components over buying each individual. I rarely use the steelhead anymore, never use the salmon or turkey. The predator tags are a throw in. I dont disagree that an increase is in order for residents. Eliminate 10 year...

ID Residents, did the new NR tag quotas make a difference?

Idaho represents every states fall back state since deadlines here are after other states have results posted. NR get used to having Idaho every year and it has become an expectation. Hunting has changed. Everyone has onX, google earth, gear has changed, the meat lover and fresh tracks have...

ID Residents, did the new NR tag quotas make a difference?

Nice rant. Let me clarify my feelings on the matter. Utah chooses to manage for quality/trophy, therefore limiting hunting opportunity. It sucks if all one wants is the chance to hunt every year. Idaho has chosen to manage for opportunity as the hunting heritage runs deep to residents of this...

ID Residents, did the new NR tag quotas make a difference?

Nah. I love Utah. Many friends from there. The Utah residents I run into fishing or hunting Idaho…I’ve learned to despise them. That’s all. I thought that BNR had that same attitude, but he may simply suffer from feeling since he owns land, pays taxes, and feeds deer, he owns them and his...

And you have to have some Utah in you! The level of know-it -all and entitlement you exude screams Utah! If not, what state shaped your attitudes? No mule deer for me. Haven’t shot one for years. Saw enough this fall to decide to leave them alone.

ID Residents, did the new NR tag quotas make a difference?

I never claimed to be an expert, but have been hunting the Units around Leadore since 1993, early elk, general deer, mz deer and elk. We have learned a few things, found areas that produce, some that don’t. I am certainly not a tax paying NR from Utah, so I am intellectually disadvantaged...

ID Residents, did the new NR tag quotas make a difference?

The warm weather benefits hunting unit 29 as most of those deer head for private or south facing hills on the other side of the highway out of the unit. So the lack of snow and warmer weather made it better for us. But spin it how you will. You have the answers for everything, cause you pay...

ID Residents, did the new NR tag quotas make a difference?

The pittance you pay in taxes here does not give you the same rights as a resident. Sorry. You are Utah through and through. We get the mz tag every now and then and hunt a few days after Thanksgiving. 63 tags and three units, yet a fitting end was NR making their mark on our hunt. We didn’t...

ID Residents, did the new NR tag quotas make a difference?

“Changed a ton?” Did you still get “your” tag to hunt “your” unit? After all the crying about the way too modest changes last year, I asked on here if anyone was unable to get a tag…seemed like everyone did. I am not against NR hunting here. Just limit it to once every 4 or 5 years like our...

ID Residents, did the new NR tag quotas make a difference?

I’ll take a video for you next time. Easily more NR than residents hunting in Salmon/Leadore area. And they didn’t effectively cut many tags. Went with historical tag sales and where people said they hunt.

ID Residents, did the new NR tag quotas make a difference?

What region do you hunt? Literally the opposite for me in SE and Central. If one could snap their fingers and all the NR were gone there would have been half the pressure. With a short season, they stay all two weeks as well. Everyday is opening day. I went Tuesday-Thursday in a place we usually...

ID Residents, did the new NR tag quotas make a difference?

I didn’t notice any difference at all. I don’t think the reduction was significant enough. Maybe spread out a little more having to pick a unit, but still saw about half the pressure from NR with half the residents being new transplants (so easy to spot)

28-1 Youth Deer Hunt Thumbs Down

How? Are these tags that were turned back in? General tags sold out earlier this year than in any year previous. I am going to be lobbying to adopt Wyoming’s management approach. NR can hunt elk every 5 years on general. Deer? Control only, reduce tags to 10% of resident sales. Has to happen

28-1 Youth Deer Hunt Thumbs Down

Bull-butter. No residents had a crack at a second tag as the NR allotment sold out before they were available as a second. For a person who speaks of “facts” you sure don’t have a firm grasp of any. Does it get tiring being so dishonest??

28-1 Youth Deer Hunt Thumbs Down

So you are a Utahrd…makes perfect sense. Know it all, entitled, presumptuous…fits perfectly. You really think given the dramatic increase in move in “residents” to Idaho (who all want to hunt) that keeping NR tags the same they have been for 30 years is sound management? Residents should be...

28-1 Youth Deer Hunt Thumbs Down

Truth is, for every new tag sold in Idaho to “resident” hunters, a non res tag needs eliminated. Still saw way to many California, Washington, Oregon, Utah, etc out slaying two points. Add to those the easy to spot new move ins and there is way too many tags. With the onslaught of off road...

    My Wifes Elk

Great bull. Is it just my experience, or are the ATV’s and side by sides out of control this year? I cant believe how many I have seen and the places I have seen them! If the fines were anywhere near where they should be, all outdoor government agencies could be funded, with surplus!

    Idaho Legal Muzzloader

I was looking last winter for a MZ in Idaho Falls for this coming season (that’s how it’s done, wink, wink) and the Sportsman’s had a dozen different types to choose from. Draw results/ where is the excitement!!!

Draw odds have plummeted since the IDFG instituted the idiotic rule of passing a tag on to a minor child or grandchild and lowering the age to 10.
