I think that is the point of his frustration. Nothing has been done other than cut tags and a crap load of studies in the early stages.

The whole problem starts with deer numbers. You, I and every sportsmen who gets out at all knows the deer numbers are in the tank. The deer situation needs to be looked at from the standpoint of having no deer, not 20 bucks per hundred doe.

The bottom line is there are so few deer that we should be hoping for as many deer as we can, bucks or doe. I want to know anyone who went out this past winter and saw the number of bucks to doe as is said on these southern units. I must look for wintering deer in all the wrong places. Not...

I cover most all of the Beaver unit with several other sportsmen that hunt that unit. There just is not enough deer to justify any tag increase. They may be guessing a good fawn crop but a post deer hunt count of 20.4 bucks per 100 doe is just a terrible estimate. I have been in all those...

The Beaver and west Desert only units the chart shows that are below objective on the 3 year average yet want to increase by 600 tags.

It is not at the top end. 17.5 is still below the bottom end on the 3 year average.

The Boulder shows a 25/100 3 year average and 800 tag increase while the beaver shows 17.5/100 3 year average and gets a 600 tag increase. Beaver unit does not even make the 18-20 buck to doe average. Explain that one?

None of the hunters in the southern units who have been out and looked at the deer numbers would agree that the deer numbers are increasing

Down 100k deer but must be up in bucks. That seems a little weird. The buck fawns survive and the lady fawns must be the ones dying off. Too many bucks and not enough for. This go kill the bucks so that ratio matches up better.

But on the other hand units that did not get pounded by winter but have low deer numbers (southern) units received large increases.

Some units like the Beaver are in terrible shape in deer numbers. Why increase Buck tags by + 600 when you have no deer to begin with. Just like Bucks do not grow the deer herd neither does one year of great winter conditions grow bucks if you have no deer to begin with.

Beaver unit to increase by +600 not that many total deer combined on this unit. Sad to see but the term kill them while you can is in full force.

My suggestion is to try just what you are saying. Let’s ramp up predator control and see what it does for the deer herd. But my point is we don’t have five years to study and waste time.

I did not say one word about tag cuts. I said why waste time on predator study if we know they need be greatly reduced let’s get it done. Not sure how notdone gets tag cuts out of that?

Why do we need a study to tell us what we all ready know. Just wasting time and deer.

I always wonder about the CWD. If those deer are dumb, walk in circles etc, why would they not be easy prey for Lion, coyote, bear. Seems like they would be easiest animals to kill?

Ya if this is a huge factor let’s quit hitting the small things and get right to the problem. Raise tag fees, etc, whatever it takes. I have not seen anything else working!

If the killing of more predators showed signs of working, why is that not a priority in helping the deer herd increase?

I don’t know what you call it when hunters go out in the hills and come back not seeing deer? I don’t know what you call it when landowners once had 100’s of deer in there fields (myself being one of these) and now lucky to see one or two. I don’t know what you call it when winter grounds...

No one wants to tackle a deer herd that is so low in numbers, but would rather say it is not that bad deer are still out there just need one more good weather year.

The Beaver unit is a perfect example. The feed in that area is fine. The deer herd has declined greatly both bucks and does. So when it gets to the point it is now where there is just no deer what does the mule deer plan say we should do?

Colorado says kill them all or cwd will get them, Utah says kill them all before the winter does.

I think whatever unit hossblur hunts in should be over the counter tags. Hell kill all the bucks, big ones, little ones all of them. Bucks don’t help the deer herd grow so why not give everyone a tag. When we have killed all the bucks none of these conversations will even matter.

We have dedicated hunters in every unit that they love to hunt and want to see deer herds increase. Give them a grid system to go out and physically count the deer herd. Let’s start from a baseline of how many deer we are actually talking about.

Why don’t we use our dedicated hunts to help count deer.. we all agree there is a big decline in deer. Let’s get a more accurate count as a starting point

The elk running off the deer holds no weight where I hunt. Tons of bitter brush and water. No Elk at all in this area. Also no deer. Not because elk have run them off. Like I said before the Buffett is there but no deer to enjoy it. It is a numbers problem and has been declining for years...

I can say this with the low numbers of deer on the Beaver, there is a Buffett of feed to be had, just no deer to come to the table.
