061/071 Elk

I drew Bull Elk tag for early rifle in 061/071. I would like to get as far away from the road hunters as I can. Does anyone have any advice on where I should start my search, I would appreciate any help.

From what i have heard you will want to get as close to the Idaho border as possible.

Ditto. nd kill one opening day before they get scared into idaho. With the earlier season dates things may change. IMO you have a great tag.

I hunted the unit in 2009 shot a 350 bull it was a great hunt. As for geting away from raods it is hard thear are roads every ware. I arived 6 days befor the season and only saw one other hunter scouting for 4 days. Then they came out of the wood work. Lucky I had my bull spoted. I saw over 30 branched antlerded bulls in one dranage all visable from a well traveled 4x4 road the day before opening day. Every one I talked to told me that the elk move to Idaho more by snow than hunting preasure. I tend to beleave that due tp all the elk hunting and deer seasions prior to the rifle bull season.There are a few areas that are away from roads. If you can spend some tine in early sept scouting and arive 4 to 5 days prior to the opening day you should have a great hunt. GOOD LUCK AND SHOOT STRAIGHT.
