Made it back from my elk hunt. Had a really good time.

Left for camp on the 5th to do some scouting before the hunt. Didn't really see anywhere near the amount of elk as we usually do but it was still a fun hunt.

While we were walking to a tank I wanted to check out we heard a couple bugles and went on alert.

Located them and it turned out to be a pretty good herd. About 25 total elk. Rain kinda messed with the camera and the elk turned out pretty fuzzy.

Can't really see it but one of these bulls was BIG. To my standards anyway.

After a few days of checking mountains and trails and tanks I decided on where I was going to hunt. These are pics of my blind and the tank we set it on.

On saturday morning at 7:03 AM this young cow walked behind the tank at 60 yards. Hit her a little farther back and up than I wanted to but it did the job. She ran 150 yards back towards the truck and crashed.

Not unit 8 cuhnter. No she wasn't very far from the truck quest. The tank was about 200 yards from the road and she ran about 150 yards back to the truck. Only about 50 yards from the road. she only weighed about 150 - 175 after field dressing so it wasn't much work at all.

Congrats on your young cow. The steaks will be tinder and tastey no doubt. Will be up in your area Nov., 5th - 9th-ish looking for Mr. Buck. I hope to bring home some elk meat from CO a few weeks before that.

It sure is nice when you can bring them out whole, string them up and use the weight of the hide to assist the skinning process.

Enjoy the feast.
