I am at a point in life I would give half my earnings every year to pay off the national debt. I love this country. I see the beacon of hope it is. I see that I am fortunate to be here at this time in the grand scheme of life. I could have come 400 years ago in medieval Europe. We are so lucky to be here now. I appreciate what the founding fathers risked. I have hope Trump will do something about the debt. I feel that he knows. With bankruptcies in his past he understands, perhaps better than most, what is at stake. The one thing that will bring this country and the world to it's knees is our spending. We have got to control it. I feel Trump wants to correct the issue. I guess we will have to wait and see. It feels like the Senate and House are stacked against him. Nobody wants a bill unless they can get their constituents some money to take home. We will have a day of reckoning sooner than later if we dont. I am humbled when I think of my pioneer ancestors. In my family we have a history journal of a litle 11 year old Great Great Grandpa that came here on a boat. He jumped on a ship with some Mormon missionaries and came the the USA to escape the poverty his family lived in back in Denmark. He went through Ellis Island, through New York, was pushed out of Missouri in his bare feet by angry mobs, walked across the plains, settled in the salt riddled soils of Utah. Then fought the Blackhawk war and ended up fighting Indians. Had a house on the frontier. Then there is my kids Great Great Pops. Still alive. He was in WWII. Sat in a room in an aircraft carrier in a secret location. He was working with super secret tech...aka radar. He married grandma on a weekend trip from San Diego to Salt Lake. He watched the treaty signed in Japan on a battleship with US warships, likely the largest navy ever assembled on Earth, stretched out in front of his eyes so thick it covered the sea as far as one could see. He lost friends in that one. Then there is My Pops. Ready to retire, stomach full of ulcers, worked hard and late most of his life building his company. I helped him run a gravel pit, run tractors, plant trees, etc. We worked till our blisters on our neck from the sun were popping from the pressure of a collar. Till the blisters on our hands were bleeding down the handles of our shovels. Well into cold winter nights we would work.
Even after all this. I would give half of everything, every year, if I knew they would not borrow any more. If I knew my money would go to help pay down the debt. But, I dont trust them. And, even Trump appears unable to avoid more debt and he appeared to be willing to try. I have heard Obama declare he would balance the budget, Bush declare he would balance the budget, Trump declare he would try to balance the budget. I dont know if it will happen in my lifetime.
If we dont get a handle on this then the day of reckoning when the world realizes we have built a house of cards, will happen within my lifetime.
NeMont recognizes that this is the biggest issue facing us. If we dont take care of the payments we have then it wont matter how many war ships we have, or how new our infrastructure is.
I dont see a way out or a person that can get us there...
