After spotting the herd from about 2 miles away the evening before we made a plan to go after them. We got to the base of the mountain at daybreak and I started the steep climb. These elk were about 2/3 the way up and it took me 2 hours to catch sight of the herd. I had a bull standing broadside across the canyon at 521 yards. I put the 300 Weatherby on my shooting stix and squeezed the trigger and down he went.
