2013 Quota Recommendations!

looks like they came back to their senses a little more on the deer tho, still a lot. The elk the have been increasing a ton the last few years because they cant get enough killed to keep them within the management numbers.

Just my luck the only NR archery elk hunt they reduced tags in is the one I applied for. But they raised them in four other archery elk hunts that I didn't apply for. Oh well, hopefully 11 bonus pts is the magic # this year.

One of the complaints last year was the overlap of other species with the deer hunts. One thing that really jumps out at me is the few antlerless deer hunts. Why do they need to be at the same time as the regular any legal weapon buck hunt?

Any reason why it couldn't be well after the late buck hunts? In area ten that's almost 1000 more tags/hunters out there. Yeah 10 is a big area but damn! I saw 6 first hand and not sure if the 490 fewer people would have made much of a difference or not. Just an observation

How about today?
If Hunting and Angling Ended
There is no alternative funding system
in place to replace the potential lost
funds for conservation. If hunting and
angling end, funding for wildlife
conservation, including enforcement of
all wildlife laws, will be jeopardized.
Hunters, anglers and shooters actively
support wildlife conservation through
tangible actions such as buying licenses
and paying taxes on hunting, fishing and
shooting equipment. Why are hunters and
anglers so willing to support
conservation through their pocketbooks?
Because people place added value on ?
and are willing to pay for ? what they
can use. Given the rate of population
growth, particularly in western states,
the percentage of people participating
in hunting and fishing is decreasing.
Therefore, it is important to engage in
traditional outdoor recreational
activities and introduce others to these
opportunities.

Was anybody able to attend the commission meeting this weekend or know anyone who did? Just curious as to what the final vote was regarding the overall recommended mule deer quotas. Thanks!

Antlerless hunts need to take place before any rutting action begins, so that bucks aren't wasting time and energy breeding does that could potentially end up getting shot.

don't know if it makes a difference or not, but I know they would prefer to kill a preg cow. That way they kill two elk, they never harvest what they are trying to on elk. They are trying to manage for certain numbers in certain areas, and they can never get enough elk killed to stay within those numbers.

There are videos of the commission meetings on the NV website. I just watched a 51 Minute video dealing with the 2013 deer quotas. My areas were approved as proposed. They did cut the tag numbers on some areas, though.

Are these videos on NV.gov or NDOW website?

Sure wish we were still residents. My wife would have a heck of a good chance to be hunting desert sheep this year in the Muddys. Hopefully my 20 points help me with elk, as NDOW more than doubled the quota in the area I applied. Best of luck to all!

>Looks like NDOW really wants to
>whack the elk in 2013!
>

Whats funny is NDOW's intentions to put the breaks on the elk population growth is more or less like trying to bail a flooded boat with a thimble.

They put out more tags every year to trim em back, yet the populations continue to grow, and what's even more is that they open up new hunts in new units nearly every other year (unit 065 gets it this year). I remember in 2007 when NDOW gave out 20-something rifle bull tags for one season (no early and late hunt)in area 6. Now there are 50+ issued for both the early and late rifle hunts.

Where you from? I am a resident in Nevada. I am also hoping to get my elk tag this year. I have 8 bonus points for archery elk. Good luck to you!
