Well , I have spent a little time on both units, BUT,
really dont know them very good. Surely not as well as most of you.

I'm a Utah res, with Max wyoming elk points, wanting to get this
done before I'm too old. Want to do it archery, But will have
plenty of time to take 2/3 weeks, and stay for rifle if needed..

Im looking at a 50% chance at drawing 24, around 15% for 100.

My queaston is, Is unit 100 that much better than 24 ?

24 look like it could be good archery hunting in September..?.

And then again, 100 looks like it would be fun with a rifle
about Oct 1st ......

Anyone here with some thoughts and guidence?.....THANX...

>100.

ya, but it would be so fun to rifle hunt 2 weeks before anyone else...... LOL

I'm in the same boat but will be trying to cash in my max points starting in 2015. And yes, I'll be almost too old!

In the same boat with my oldest son. He has max and this will be one of them hunts that he will have a good chance at a good bull. 100 may take forever, but 24 was not in max points just a few years ago. Have heard some great things about 24 and with a bow could be some great fun. I've bounced your same question around. Best of luck. Yes he is young, but I keep getting older!!!

Im not to familure with area 24 but I have guided several hunts in area 100 and spent houndres of hours in the area looking at elk. I can tell you the quality of bulls has went down a bit in the last few years but there are still lots of 300 plus bulls. I just havent been seeing as many 350 plus bulls as normal. I have guided archery hunts in area 100 and they were amazing, almost to easy. those elk are like whistling to dogs, If you decide on area 100 let me know and i can give you some tips and even help you hunt.

Thanks kth !

Definatly something to think over.....

I've guided alot of elk hunts in Utah, and kmow whats involved.
For me, I would be willing to pay for info on SOLID starting
spots...Would save the cost of travil.!.

I've hunted antelope in 107, been to Oregon Buttes.
I also know the Steamboat mountains is were I would start.
BUT, thats all I know about 100...

I'm seriuosly considering putting in for 100....
Leaning that way as of now..

Goofyelk,
I have spent a lot of time around oregon buttes and the back side of steamboat, good areas, lots of pressure around opening day!I have a few spot west of 191 that hold some big bulls and not too much pressure on them, I work in the gas and oil industy so I have a lot of contacts that watch the entire area so I can usually get the scoop if there is a big bull running anywhere. You wont have to pay for the info just one hunter helping out another!

AGAIN , kth , Thanx!!!!

I'm for SURE at least buying the gas/food ..

Decision made....I'm putting in for 100!
