Yep, nobody hikes further, hunts harder, scouts more, better optics, longer rifles, scoped muzzleloader, faster bows, longer seasons, lighter gear, google earth, on x maps, Youtube, instagram. Yep... none of those trends are gaining ground and getting stronger. My bad 1911, your right, keep upping the tags. Only lived in and hunted the unit my entire life, but what the hell would I know? Never said there isn't and won't always be a couple giants around, but this is one area where the buck quality has nose dived since the micro management, and I am a huge fan of micro units. But you can't possibly think that is what the DWR is doing in this case. The Deseret deer are not part of the herd in city creek, and the Farmington canyon deer aren't part of the herd in coalville. So why in the hell are you going to make one unit and call it 4/5/6 that are for the ?most part? different herds of deer, instead of actually having 3 separate units 4-5-6? Makes no sense other than the DWR and every other tom, #####, or harry knows 4 & 6 are almost entirely private. Hmm, interesting? Maybe it's because there is no way in hell they could justify 9,000 tags in unit 5, where the vast majority of people are hunting. But if they get sneakie, make the unit appear huge, and pump up the numbers because the surrounding ranches in the region are world class (Ensign/Deseret/ect) than surely they can justify the tag numbers, and make more $$. All I am getting at is the estimated deer population, buck to doe ratio?s, and success rates would look entirely different if you separated these areas into there own units and manage them as such, rather then bundle them together.
