Got it done in 222 this week. Went up Wednesday and had a cow on the ground Friday night. Hunted hard in the wilderness area on grafton and in the beginning it wasnt looking good. Alot of rain had everything bedded but it finally let up and alot of herds came out. Was able to make a long half mile stalk up and around about 30 or 40 bedded and feeding elk. I was spotted by a cow that was bedded under a tree when I got within 40 yards. She took off and started barking back at the others that were still in the area. I looked to my left down in the draw and spotted a doe and a mule deer buck bedded and to the left of them I saw the ass of a cow elk. She was still feeding at this point until about the third bark from the cow that spotted me. That alarmed her and she took off up the hill towards me looking down the mountain away from me. She came to a stop about 36 yards from me where I was already drawn and let the arrow fly. Perfect shot double lunged. Immediate blood and I knew I didnt need another arrow. She ran about 50 or 60 yards and fell over in the bushes and that was that. Pretty stoked my first solo archery elk hunt was a success. By the time I climbed back up to get my pack and back down to her it was about 630 and i knew I had some work ahead of me. My side by side was parked about a mile away at the wilderness boundary so I started the task of quartering her and packing out the meat. I was able to get everything out in 3 trips and I'm paying for it today hope everyone else has successful hunts as well. Happy hunting. I couldn't figure out how to upload pictures until after I posted this so the picture is below.
