30mm VS 1 inch tubes

I'm going to purchase a new leupold scope this summer and I have been told that I should get one with a 30 mm tube instead of the normal 1 inch tube. do any of you guys have one of these and if so is it worth the extra money to buy one? They say they bring in more light what do you guys think?
