4.5x14 x 40mm Leupold

I bought a used Model 66 mauser in 30-06, with a 24" barrel, I am thinking of buying this model Leupold scope for it, any opinions if this is too much scope for this gun? It will be used for moose, and open elk country, and for mule deer as well. Am I better off with the 3.5x10?

I have the 4.5X14x40 on my 7mm Reg Mag. I do alot of shooting at the range and one of the reasons on went with this vs. the 3.5x10 was that I'd spend more time using the higher magnification that I would the lower magnification.
