LAST EDITED ON Feb-13-10 AT 04:25PM (MST)[p]If you could only spend 500 bucks on a spoter what would you choose?

Im looking for something in that range. I will be useing it for westeren big game. Deer, elk, ect. And I will be carrying it on my back.

For a comparison I used a older vortex 20-60x80 last year. I liked it but it got a little fuzzy at full zoom and was a little bulky for packing.

Used is good too! They dont have to be new.

Thanks for any info!

Seen an older, but in excellent condition Swarovski ST80 with zoom eyepiece sell for $500.00 earlier this week. Be patient, deals are out there!

I hate to say it but all scopes at around the 1000 range will be fuzzy a bit at higher power and some will not gather light real well.

for the money, Vortex is a good choice. if you can spend moroe, Leupold gold ring is about 900 and is really really nice!

Thanks for the info.

I know a $500 spotter is not going to be real clear at high zoom compared to the higher end ones.
I know in optics you do get what you pay for, but 500 is about all I can do right now.
