Depends where the ranch is located and how big the Ranch is. There is Elk in that area and even more elk in the later months of the year. We have a Public Deer Tag for that unit in November.

Wait until the ranch gets 4+ inches of snow on the ground (usually December)... the later the better.
Once you have snow on the ground and the elk have moved into the ranch from the mountains... it will be an easy hunt.
The key is to be patient and wait for the weather. The resident elk population in 5A is relatively low, but the migration increases numbers by 10x..
