5a rifle bull

Mu son drew his first elk tag unit 5a for the november rifle hunt can anyone point us in a good direction to start scouting we have never hunted there. I have info to trade on some other units if it helps anyone
Thanks

I couldn't help but hear the "crickets" chirping.....
I also drew 5A, but when it comes to offering help with scouting the zone you probably won't get much if any help. Consider, there are hundreds of applicants for 5A and many, like me are non-resident. It costs a few bucks for non-resident tags so potentially giving up a chance at a bull for a newbie is not very likely. I have hunted 5A and 5B many times. It takes five to six years in a row of applying to get drawn. You will have to put in the leg work on your own like myself and many others. The good news is, scouting a new area is exciting and can be very rewarding. Good luck to you and your son.

Thanks guys I'm an az native and an avid elk hunteralong with deer i ddon't belive in paying someone to find my game that takes away from the fun of the hunt I was just hoping some one could say north south east or west not asking for there honey hole I would rather find my own I have hunted a lot of units for elk and have hunted the late archery the last 6 out of 7 years and have a lot of experience with that hunt but I see how it has turned out about asking for advice to get a kid his first elk but thanks to the two people that responded

You don't believe in paying for someone to tell you where the elk are but you're fine with asking outright where to find one? Get up there and scout and find some elk like everyone else. Doesn't matter if it's a kids hunt or not. Take a few weekends with your son and go look around. It's one thing to ask for some general advice and people can offer it but when you don't get any responses to it and you respond with a post acting upset that Noone told you where to take your kid to kill an elk is ridiculous.

Thanks bonecollector777 if you read my first post I didn't ask where to find my kid an elk I asked if some one could point me in a direction meaning north south east west I don't want someone's honey hole we plan on finding our own I never expected some to give me a gps location but thanks anyways I have talked to a few hunters that have pointed me in a dirction

Interesting response....
You say you are "an AZ native and an avid elk hunter', and yet you profess to know little or nothing of 5A. You also say "I have hunted lots of units for elk". How did you start with all those areas? I would guess you did some scouting. My initial response was in no way intended to insult. I merely expressed the reality of asking for advice. Frankly if you are as experienced as you claim, scouting a new area should be a "piece of cake", especially since you are an AZ native.
To provide an answer to your request...I got this one in North, South, East and West.

It's no wonder why the activity on this board has died.....

You gotta be an badass or an a-hole.... Or sometimes both....

Bonecollector I'm not here to argue with anyone mearly wanted some advice
If I offened you or came across wrong I apologies are in order
By the way nice bull congrats

Outdoosman- Bonercollector is a guide or wants to be one. He is offended that you won't pay-to-play, and thinks its ok to belittle you here on this site. You're being polite back. IF you look at all the guides who advertise here and take the big money out of the equation... they would all go away. DIY is becoming a lost art. Sharing information is the gentleman's way our dads and granddads did it. Money was not offered or wanted. I respect the fact that you want to do it yourself. Everyone who knows you will respect you for not hiring a guide to lead you around.

Nicerack your reply to the gentleman's post shows your high nosed attitude. And then the pic of the 'not-nicerack' with the sarcastic comment on where you shot it... I'm sure hes not interested in THAT area.
The guy just asked for help and offered something of value in return. If you are in the habit of belittling someone, then try your approach on the guy who wants to hire a guide who will do all the work for him. THAT would be a bully attitude well spent.

Mr. or rather Mrs. AZBORN......
Don't you sound like the old maid third grade teacher/cat rancher. You say I have a "high nosed attitude"...not a chance! I believe in putting in my own work for my own reward.
"not-nice rack".....what does that mean? Are you making a weak attempt sarcasm or insult with regard to the size of the antlers on my bull? I guess it doesn't measure up to your standards. There is nothing belittling in any of my previous posts, except this one....try growing a pair, put your big boy pants on and quit whining for others. I'm sure "outdoorsmann01" can speak for himself.

Haha listen to this guy. AZborn who has 9 posts on this site thinks he knows something about me. Do I guide? Ocassionally? Do I do it for a living? absolutely not. I guide maybe one or two hunts a year. I don't care how people kill their elk. What I do care about is people asking for advice and places to go and getting upset when people don't answer them. That's a terrible attitude to have.

"NONET" Said it right! Right after (1)Not-Nicerack" rips Outdoorsman for asking for advise then had the audacity to post her bully remarks and dinkpic sarcasm (not-nicerack let me help; Audacity means 'boldness w/ arrogant disregard of normal restraints'). and after (2)bonrcollector guide does the same bullying because Outdoorsman didn't offer to pay for the information. Guides!
I choose to bully the bullies and defend Outdoorsman because of the two badasses Nonet pointed out.

This guy is a Troll. I have a feeling his "cave" is his mom's basement if you know what I mean? Again AZBORN, quit whining and now babbling. You sound like an idiot.

That's all you two forum bullies have to say? geezz. nonet you are correct about these guys.

Outdoorsmann here's some helpful info for you - Draw a line between Quayle Hill and Red Hill. Hunt north of that in the semi open country. Stay mobile and glass fast. Maybe hop up on Red Hill to glass too. During mid-day work some of the thick cedar islands on foot and be ready.
If the guides are overly prostituting the areas elk with guys like nicerack-not, then try south of that line in the thick cedars. If its a dry season then elk will hit water.
If you hunt on the south end of the unit then work the long pine covered draws on foot (west side of Leonard canyon). Avoid pulling the trigger on very average bulls(see pic above). There are some 330-350 bulls to hold out for.

AZBORN you just can't resist an opportunity to insult or reproach. And you refer to me as having a "high nosed attitude"...look in the mirror.
Since when are "guts" along the spine? That shot was a 45 degree quartering away shot that took out the spine and blew up the right lung. It came nowhere near the guts.

Wow, a guy asks for a little help with a unit and gets these responses ? If you douche bags dont want to help why not just shut up ? Very disgusting to a fellow hunter !

this post alone makes me glad that I am not hunting arizona... although pictures make it seem like the animals could potentially be record quality; the quality of douchey replies to this simple thread are most certainly record quality (not in a pleasant way)

geeze , tough thread....I drew a nice little deer unit here in NM(2B) and have been there a handful of times on both deer and elk hunts and still ask whats going on....And I work for the Game & Fish....

This is the worst thread I've seen on this site. Some total jerks. Amazing. If you don't want to help, then don't but, shut up about it. It does no good to be rude and say go scout--obviously he will when he can.

Quote from the OP "but I see how it has turned out about asking for advice to get a kid his first elk"

He asked for help and when Noone offered he responded with this rude comment. So it was followed with a rude response. That's all. I said it already but I'll say it again. If someone wants to offer help that's fine. But when Noone does don't respond with something that is trying to shame people into feeling bad because it's for a kid.
