Think She'll Burn the Barrel Out Quicker than Most?

She Shoots Flat from what I can Gather!

Anybody know at what Yardage She Loses enough Energy not to be Shooting at Big Game?

They're Starting to Compete with REDDOG on Tamping the Powder!

at 500 yards it has the same energy as the 300 weatherby with 150 grain partition.

150 .308 out of a magnum is a waste. Got to step up to 180 grain plus.

Won't argue on that one,I wouldn't be afraid to shoot an elk with that 6.5.

I have be looking at that 6.5 x 300. Thinking I need a lighter gun for deer size game and smaller. I know some might use it on elk. But I have seen elk absorb a lot of energy. A few articles out there on the new Weatherby. I have been reading up. Not really sure which of the 6.5's I like yet. But I think this is the new biggest baddest out now.

The 26 Nosler is close. It's based off the the same 404 Jeffery case. It's just a little shorter then the 300 rum. So if you can't wait for a 6.5 300 rum there you go. ?

If you are into long range,then the 26 is the way to go. The ballistic coefficient of the 26 142gr. is.719 compared to the 130 factory weatherby at .571. The downrange energy per both factory loads is 1257 ft lbs.at 800 for the 6.5, and 1632 for the 26 at . The factory loads are also $ 20.00 a box cheaper too. I'm sure you could fine tune the weatherby with the higher B.C. bullets.

A friend has built a couple "undertakers" (6.5xRUM).
I joked about building one on a RUM action that I have and he said "hell no" it's about the worst thing to build since i shoot my rifles. It's impressive but he only shoots it once or twice per year and then saves it for next year.
The 26 or 28 Nosler might be a bit more practical FOR ME and the days of guessing holdover are long past.
I guess I'm a bit more pedestrian than some of you bold fellows.
With that said, build one and show us a wound!

Yep, that's the one, Mr Cat, but I was thinking you'd get a new rifle and make another mess! Haha

Balance man balance! It's all about balance. Mate the bullet weight, design, Caliber and bullet construction to the task at hand and you can have a little meat next time.

The next 6.5 I build will be a creedmore for my wife's use. The next one for me will be a 6.5x280ai (the reamer is on the way) for use in a standard bolt face long action. It should be between the 6.5x 284 and 6.5 WSM in performance which means it should be awesome!

Let us know what you decide on.

I had a 6.5 ultramag done 14 years ago. It had a 29" barrel but I sold it. It was fun and very fast. I'm sure the barrel wouldn't have lasted too long.

It was a real hot rod that Old Bessy posted up here a few years ago. Just picture the biggest case you can think of and top it off with a .17 caliber bullet. I am sure he will find a pic and post it up.

Hey Bessy,

Think about all the forkys you have saved over the years being a horn hunter. Cutting a 32+" Nomad buck in half ending up with with one tenderloin and the horns seems legit to me. Am I thinking wrong?? A 243. Corlokt on 8 forkys is equivalent to a 6.5x404 Jeffries right?? Doyle and Wade recommend that gun on thier hunts...I heard that's what the gal from Texas shot her sheep with. Guess you ain't man enough.

would you recommend the 17JFP for elk? I only plan to shoot 1500 yards and in. I know to some of you guys that's a chip shot but for me that's as far as I feel comfortable shooting at game.

Put your big boy pants on and slap an 8mm bullet on the end of the case...then it will kill anything on the North American Continent...I've got one...

recoil is a little iffy at the target-but when shooting at big antlers you don't feel it at all...
