Only a 5% of the unit burned. Though what burned is good elk habitat.

I'd hunt that tag.
But what your expectations are might dictate a different response. What are you looking for, size wise, to put the tag on??

I heard that in most of the fire area only the antlers burned.

I drew a 2nd rifle elk tag & turned it back in -- way too many negatives to go & burn 13 points. Try another year. ?

I'd be more concerned about the lack of water this year than the fire. Unit 61 is a much harder hunt when it's dry. Unfortunately the best available water is down in the canyons, although there are ponds and springs up higher but you have to know where they are.
