I shoot a Ruger Mark 77 and can get 3/8in groups with 120gr Sierra Pro-Hunters,68gr. H4831SC powder,andWin.WLRM primers.
I also get 5/8in. groups from both 160gr. Sierra Gameking Boat tails, and 160gr. Nosler Partitions using 64gr.H4831SC powder, and WLRM primers. The 160 Sierra has put two whitetails down in a hurry, and the Partition dropped a nice Mule deer in 50 yards. I'm interested in seeing what the 120gr. will do on whitetail. I've been told that load is awesome.
I have a question of my own. I have very limited elk experience, and I am wondering if it would be worth my time and effort to work up a heavier load than the 160 Nosler Partition. I'm satisfied with my efforts out to 250yds.{ the farthest I have room to shoot} I am not sure I could be accurate enough beyond 300yds to take a chance. The ballistics differences don't seem to be that great at that distance, but at the same time, I am comfortable with the load that I am using. I would appreciate your opinions. Thanks!
