LAST EDITED ON Oct-31-16 AT 09:10PM (MST)[p]Not asking for spots.

We are headed over from Idaho on the 10th to try and fill some cow tags. Any insight on what to expect? Weather, crowds, road hunters?

We antelope hunted 2 units south 3 years ago, beautiful country and moose everywhere! Also wild seeing antelope at 8000 feet.

Good amount of snow in the high country. Bulk of the elk are already low. You should only need to worry about road hunters if you are planning on road hunting. Same answer for crowds. You should have a successful hunt with a little bit of effort and some good timing. Good luck.

I've been down there a few times recently and seen elk every time out in the sage. Lots of people around but that is some big country. If another big storm hits they will be all over out there.

Thanks for the responses. Any idea what the snow line is roughly?

We're not planning on road hunting but it sounds like due to the snow it might be more like an antelope hunt. Just probing to make sure we are as efficient as possible with 4 tags and just 4 days to hunt.

Can't wait to get out there and see some new mountains! Thanks.

I hunted the unit a few years ago, we hunted the opener for rifle bulls. The elk were fairly spread across the unit, lots of cows in the lower hills basically were private/public meet at the start of the tree line. I would think this would be a fairly easy hunt. You can PM on exact locations if you want.

We've seen 2 groups of elk total after 2 days of hunting, but both were on private on those lower ranches.

Have a feeling we are about 2 weeks late and 1 month early weather wise. The locals said it was a slaughter during the general hunt after that big storm.
