Anybody?

I Want the Strongest which I'd Think Steel would be?

Will the Aluminum Rails Hold up?

Going threw the same thing Bessy. Looking for a 20 moa stainless steel rail to match a stainless rifle my boy and I are building. Most are aluminum and coated black. Like Seekins makes. They don't even offer a silver one. I would prefer stainless though or silver even if his scope is going to be black.

Hey BIGJOHN!

Don't know what you're Building?

This Might work for you if you're using a REMINGTON 700 LA?

They might have others as well?

Buckeye Optics Stainless Steel 20 MOA Picatinny Rail Remington 700 Long Action

For Once I'm actually going Black!

ummm, aluminum shouldn't even be in the discussion for a rail. If you're lucky they'll use 7075 but even then it'll compress.

Well Bobby!

If You Haven't Noticed Most Rails are made out of Aluminum!

Not All of them Though!

I Want the Strongest/Best!

As Homer Says:

Buy Once,Cry Once!

Anodizing aluminum can actually make it stronger because it puts a hard coating on the surface. There are most likely other coatings available today that may do the same thing. If you have a good metal finishing shop in your area that does parts for aerospace applications or AR parts they may be able to give you more information and some of the newer coating may work for you, ceramics are tough as nails but bear in mind the thickness of coating must be taken into consideration in the mating surfaces of some parts. Aluminum and steel don't marry well and have to be isolated to prevent galvanic corrosion. Hope that helps Bess.

Well Bessy, we make scope parts and have also made a bunch of rails. Buy what you want but making aluminum rails because they're cheap and it's easy doesn't make them the best. I wouldn't be mounting that 3 1/2# scope onto aluminum.

"Anodizing aluminum can actually make it stronger because it puts a hard coating on the surface."

It's a surface treatment that can increase "surface hardness" when you hard anodize a part but it in no way makes the part "stronger". And that's hard coat, not the std ano used by most.

Hey all, try looking up and calling Ken Farrell Industries. They are easy to deal with and can build anything you want and talk you through deciding what is best and answering questions. They can probably help you with the stainless color you're looking for as well. They were the only company I could find to build a 20 MOA rail for a Cooper I helped a guy put together last spring.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-11-16 AT 01:40PM (MST)[p]Ha, I was looking at Amazon. Musta been shipping weight. Burris says 2#. I'm not a fan of aluminum rails or rings. Seekins uses 7075 if you go that route. I use Nightforce steel, bedded.

That 7075 is Aluminum though?

You Basically Told Me Not To Use Aluminum,Right?

OK Bob!

I See some of the NightForce Rails are Aluminum as well!

Can Somebody tell me what the Part Number is for a NightForce Rail as Follows:

Black!

Steel!(Not Aluminum!)

4 Screws!(Not 3!)

Standard Heavy Duty Rail!

I Do Not Want Nor Need any MOA Built in to the Rail?

You Got a Part Number Bob?

Anybody?

Yes, 7075 is a stronger/better choice for a rail than 6061. I think you're a plumber? A 6061 fitting will stretch, the 7075 will stretch slightly then crack. Under a constant load the aluminum will compress, the steel won't. Will aluminum work? absolutely. Is steel a better choice? it is for me as it's pretty much bullet proof. Personally, I would also stay away from a powder coated rail. Too much variance in coating thickness on corners and vertical surfaces.

I don't believe Nightforce makes a 0 moa steel rail.

Ken Farrell does:

GEEZUS!

The More I Check in to it the Fewer Options there are!

I Did Find a LEUPOLD Rail 65970!

But Reading Deep it has 15 MOA Built in to it!

Does Anybody Build a Steel Rail(That Ain't Made In China!) with NO MOA Built in to it?

Anybody?

[font color="blue"]She put a Big F.U. in My Future,Ya She's got a

TRY Leupold and you may have some luck used to be called their ultra series probably their Mark series now.

Bess somebody makes them because law enforcement agencies use them. they don;t set their guns up for long range. What are you putting it on? I have a few Leupold Ultra mounts in my shop?

The Only Steel Rail I Can Find is Made In China & I Hate To Buy Anything from China!

Gotta be something somewhere!

Boskee!

Be Putting it on a New Remington 700 Long Action!

One more Question?

Are the Newer Remington 700's Tapped for the 8-40 Screws?

Or are they still the 6-40 Screws?

BROWNELLS

Brownells is the place the EGW base and it's steel & flat. Call them to verify Don't forget if that isn't what you want you could buy one with the 20moa and have it machined or use a two piece base they are more readily available.

You have the adjustment in your scope to use the 20 moa base as is, it's just gives you a little more adjustment for range. Hope this helps Bess!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-11-16 AT 03:21PM (MST)[p]The burris extreme tactical 2 pc has an extended base on 1 piece and it's steel and reasonable priced compared to the 1 piece units. Leatherwood and Warne may give you some options too! WARNE HAS it in 1piece steel in their tactical series bases

Ya!

I've already got a set of 2 Piece BURRIS Bases!

AWLB has Talked me in to the one Piece Picatinny Rail!

I Want as much Strength/Solidness as I can Get!

The Rail I'm looking at,at BROWNELLS doesn't really say Who Makes it?080-000-400WB

Now?

To Complicate the Rail just a little more!

Is it worth Tapping the Base Threads to the Next Size Bigger Screws?

[font color="blue"]She put a Big F.U. in My Future,Ya She's got a

We are building a semi custom 300 rum on Remington 700 action. Posted some pictures a while back in the gun forum. We had Karl Kampfeld do some work on it for us. Thanks for the heads up on the rail . You to Spencer. He is going to try a Vortex Viper HSLR on it. His first custom gun.

Somebody mentioned them already, I got a second referral on Murphy Precision. Take a look at them Bessie.

The Murphy Precision rail and rings look nice ! The rail is about the same as others. But the rings are a little pricey !

If you are going to mend a fe fences while in the field go for it. Seriously,I really think you are over thinking (building) this gun. In 45 years of hard hunting both east and west I have never had a scope knocked off zero. Mostly used a set of Leupold Steel 2 piece rings and mounts. If you do something that that causes damage to the standard screws your gun will need more than bigger screws.

I've had Great Luck with LEUPOLD DUAL DOVE TAILS over the Years!

Can't Use them with this Scope Though!

I Want This Build as Tough As I can Make it!

If I Drop This Gun in the Rocks I don't wanna be worried rather I'be knocked it off or not!

She's getting the 8-40 Screws & Rail!

40% Stronger!
