Like most I've seen what's happening across the county about CWD. Seems all that most state's are doing is increasing harvest, changing buck to doe ratios, reducing feeding programs, and continue data collection along with more research while the infection rate increases and spreads. CWD is nothing new with research showing some control methods that successfully target prions yet the states continue with the infected or potentially infected animal reductions. Fire is one identified means of reducing prions as well has a common magnesium oxide but yet they seemingly leave these tools on the shelf! There's more control methods available as opposed to shooting but yet here we sit today with the states scratching their heads openly killing all the critters we have paid them to manage. What gives? Seems to me we are stuck with an environmentalist mentality of game management creating yet one more reason to reduce hunting opportunity.
