ANOTHER POLARIS ABLAZE!!!

A close friend had his polaris burn up when his step son and friends took it for a ride. I talked to the step son and he said he couldn't believe how quick the fire started and consumed the vehicle. No one was injured. The fire was so hot all that remained was some steel framing. It even melted the wheels and the engine block.

Hey Homer!

What Might be Scary is:

Even Pumped up on DEW:

They Can't Move Quick enough to Exit the UTV before it Toasts them!

Just Sayin.......................

We know You Love Your Polaris's!

But after a Fashion of so Many Fires I'd bet there might be an Issue!

This Ssshhhiiitttt has been going on long enough that 2016 Models shouldn't have to be Re-Called for the same Problem!

POLARIS'S Are Damn Good Machines!

But if they do in Fact have a Problem it's Past Time to Fix it!

I Talked to a Rancher the other day that has both Polaris & Honda Side by Sides!

11K Miles on His Polaris before it needed any work!

The Honda is New & There's things He Likes about each of them!

Claims the Honda Will Toast you in the Summer with all the Heat it Creates!

I Told him that's so when Winter Rolls around it Might keep you half way Warm!:D

It's No Different than a DODGE/CHEVY/FORD Argument!

You Find things on the Top Brands that You'll like better than others!

I'll Give Polaris the Best Ride!

Love my Polaris 570 RZR, but if you own a Polaris, just figure on spending as much in repairs as the machine cost. I've had my RZR for 3 years now and have spent $4000 in repairs, $2500 was for a new motor at 900 miles.
I've had 3 Honda ATVs, not one penny in repairs, just general maintenance.

I've put my can-am through the ringer over the last 10 years and haven't had one problem. I will never own anything but a can-am ever again.

Yup can am and kawasaki seam to be the most reliable as far as utv's

Got a couple friends with a can-ams side X sides and they never have to work on them - - oh, let's see, I believe they never ride them because they are to hot to be in the cab.

Then there is a friend that purchased a polaris sideX, didn't like it, purchased a kawasaki, blew the engine and had to wear head gear from the noise it put off, so went back to a polaris.

Then I have a friend who purchased a honda - - good reliable machine - - doesn't put many miles on it because it is so hard riding - - rather ride his better riding old polaris.

Polaris - - best ride in town - - have over 16,000 miles on two of them and only cost me a couple hundred dollars. I just dickered and got the price of the 5 year maintenance contract down on each one of them. :)

The fires do scare me with my two extra cans on the back of my machine. With three out of four machines in the hills being polaris', just how much of a difference it makes I don't know. At least that about the ratio I see here and the dealer has all of the brands to sell.

I know 2 ATV mechanics that say Polaris is God sent to them. Without them they'd both be out of business. The one mechanic had 21 ATV'S in his shop and 18 where Polaris. Nice ride, but you will meet the mechanic.

So polaris you have to worry about dusting your motor. Catching on fire. And replacing your drive belt every year. I will pass I owned two rzrs an 08 and 2011 both of them were garbage. This while being perfectly maintained according to the owners manual. And the fact it sounds like a snowmobile coming down the trail. Needless to say I went a differant route for my high mountain trails and hunting purposes. If I was a sand dune guy I would probably be defending these p.o.s. but for hunting they ate garbage

Hmmm. I have a 2008 and a 2010 Sportsman 500, one with 3300 miles and the other with 3800 miles and a 2014 RZR with 2100 miles. None have ever broken down and the only maintenance I ever have done is replace the belts on the wheelers and oil changes and air filters on all three.

I guess you can hear what you want if you talk to the right guy.

Let's look at this in extreme.
What brand wins the King of the hammers almost every year?
What brand wins the Moab UTV race every year? ( they didn't do it this year since that guy got killed on the track trying to take a selfie last year )
Non racer just a fan that got killed

I woulda guessed Vaughan or stiletto?

Good thing this is in a hunting forum not racing. No need to get all worked up over a brand you make no money off of.

Just stating the fact out of the 4 polaris wheelers or utv's I have personally owned

They all had good suspensions but they all were PIECE OF CRAPS LONGEVITY WISE.

also just stating the facts from what friends and family have owned. One of them being a polaris mechanic.

Guess what he just bought a new kawasaki because he knows polaris is garbage

My buddy Trevor is a Polaris mechanic and he drives Polaris machines. Though that is a true statement, I make it only to point out the fact that you can hear whatever you want if you talk to the right guy.

The repeated "brand x is garbage" nonsense proves nothing and is an anecdote, not a fact.

We all know guys that only drive Dodge trucks and we all know guys that hate Dodge trucks because they got the dreaded "death wobble" and had the motor seize with 40,000 miles. Same goes for Chevy and Ford.

Talk to the right guy and you'll hear what you want to hear and ignore the rest. Its just human nature.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-06-16 AT 06:55PM (MST)[p]Having had all but can-am,

I have stripped all the brands to the frame including those Chinese pos.

Most all wheelers nowadays are pretty decent but with that said.

The average joe puts gas in and drive till it clunks, grinds, or the wheels fall off.
Never to actually touch the "guts" or workings of the bikes.

Take them all apart for whatever the reason and the quality is much different!
Different models and brands put money into different areas of the bikes.

From bushings too bearings to plastic throttle blocks to cast housings, they stack up like this.

1. Yamaha- for the real off roader with front brake lever and real locker. Very well Built. (9.3 out of 10)

2. Honda- built very well but behind the times on tech. These suit hunters but cater to the farmhand. (9out of 10)

3. Kawasaki/Suzuki- (6out if 10)

4. Polaris - built to play and suit the masses but built cheap, fit and finish is not a Honda or Yamaha. Awd is for homos and Subaru enthusiasts. The single brake lever really sucks.
(6 out if 10) on that one

5. Arctic cat- the turd that should stick with sleds with Suzuki motors
good looking but poorest R and D of them all in atv depart.

Well that sums it up. Enjoy

Hey Milli?

YAMAHA Has some Things I Like but!

PISS POOR SQUEAKY Brakes!

UNIVERSAL JOINTS that are almost Impossible to Grease!(WAFJ!)

At least the Single Brake Lever on the POLARIS has a Lock on it!

All the Bastards are THIRSTY MF'ERS considering how little of Horsepower they're Producing!

But Buy the BIGGEST,BADDEST SOB You can get your Hands on this year!

Then Next year they'll Have Machines out that are 100 cc's Bigger & You can get a New Bigger,Badder Model for a Nominal F'N Fee OK!

Polaris brake has a lock huh, wow mine I just put in "p". That stands for park.

Example: climbing super steep incline to where your front wheels are popping up while you lean forward kissing the front rack so you don't come over. Loosing traction and you can't go any more.

Yamaha- pull right front brake as it slides a foot or so back down, but stop without coming over.

Or

Polaris- can't climb quite as high on hill. In all seriousness "true."
But that's not the issue?
Climb comes to a stop and you can't go anymore. Pull that single brake and it applies pressure to rear and front.
Note: front are barely touching hmm what wants to happen? Seat is softer though.

If you have a carb model enjoy being stranded in the backcountry with no fuel because the seat in the carb is so cheap the o ring won't fit right and drains all your gas in the cylinder depending on angle.
I love hiking out with a quad with 225 miles on it.

It's not the first one with same issue.

both the

While Trailering a Wheeler it does Help to have a Locking Brake!

I don't wish that on anyone.

The stupid thing is they know there is a problem. Even the shittziest ambulance chaser can win with that. The history of sxs is Rhino. The reason Yamaha pretty much didn't do anything is because they were so tied up in court for years, they didn't have the money. Polaris has been pushing the envelope and forcing the others to advance and put out better stuff, hopefully they aren't now gonna be stuck in a courtroom rather than spending the resources improving the class as a whole.

06 sportsman 600 awd sensor replaced twice blown shock, instrument cluster went completely out and 3 belts. Buyer beware of used polaris people replace the instrument cluster to lower the miles on them.

2009 rzr 800 50" dusted the motor even though I was running stock filter with outerwear sleave and k&n sealant grease .bad design to put the filter right in front of the rear tire.

2009 RZR s. Snapped the axle on a log. went through 2 belts seat belt quit working. Steering wheel no longer ajusted.

Maybe I am just to hard on them. But I have put my yamaha atvs and my kawasaki teryx through the same stuff with the same maintenance and have not had any problems other then a flat tire.

I do like the fact polaris is innovative but it seams before they perfect anything they move on to bigger and better.

"4. Polaris - built to play and suit the masses but built cheap, fit and finish is not a Honda or Yamaha. Awd is for homos and Subaru enthusiasts. The single brake lever really sucks.
(6 out if 10) on that one"

So you are calling me a homo?

I have a 94' Xplorer 400, 97' Sportsman 500 & a 14' Sportsman 550 XP. Very satisfied with all of them. I'm a Yamaha guy (dirt bikes) & wanted the Grizzly but after reading all the tip overs on steep hills from the short wheel base, I passed. For the record I have towed Yamaha, Arctic Cat & Polaris off the mountain with mine.

AWD works great for me, EBS & descent control make it so I rarely touch the sucky single brake lever.

As far as the RZR's - from 13' to present they have a serious issue. Prior to that I read people melting the bed because of the heat.

For me, anyone that say's you are a homo if you like Polaris AWD kind of devalues their "expert" opinion.

Just talked to a friend whose son-in-law purchased a Honda Pioneer 500. He has 1300 miles on it and dusted the engine. It will cost him $1.00 per mile for engine rebuild. Just a warning, the rough riding Honda's have the same problem most side X sides have with a bad air intake system according to the people who sell all brands. It can also happen to the red(Honda) people along with their hurting backs.

I'm truly sorry I'm trying to edit my post. My auto correct was on.

Plain and simple you can look, see, feel quality differences. You can argue, debate, Elkass wants me to give examples all day. What is that going to do?

Some people are satisfied with "a" four wheeler much like myself.
I generally don't give a rats rear end as long as it gets me from "a" to "b".

With that said, "Polaris Lives Matter".

I loved my Polaris pro, unarguably the best sled that had come out at the time but, it was built poorly/cheap.

As for the whole brake lever thing, don't worry. They started them because they are safer/ easier for the masses and cheaper to manufacture. $$$.

Elkass; Google Polaris 200?-2009 "carb won't stop leaking " you'll understand that the draining of fuel has zero to do with angle. Re-read the post. The fuel drains out either way. Now, if you are in a descending/ downward angle then the fuel runs forward filling up the cylinder. It will lock up till you get it to drain.

Never claim to be an "expert " far from it. I just tare into these "machines" once every 10 yrs.

Have a great day

Glad you made a great purchase for you.
Heck anything new is great. Short wheel base and width come in handy to some and not others. I read on the enet that if you use a more rider forward position while climbing steep hills you can prevent most of that. Enjoy the masses.

A Problem with Gas Leaking in to Cylinders on Machines up to 2009 I Take it?

Suppose they Fixed the Problem on Newer Machines?

You May Disagree With Me but I Do Like a Locking Brake!

How Much extra would that have cost Yamaha?

How Bout SQUEAKING F'N Brakes on Yamahas!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-10-16 AT 05:48PM (MST)[p]On the gas leak thing I think 09 was the last yr of that carb. They might use it on lesser models but they were already introducing efi prior to 09 to weed out the carb. Which is good.

I agree with the locking hand brake costs woul be minimal. I just like 2 is all.

Brakes: to be honest I haven't encountered much of issue other than just a quick tap to clear debris. The Kawasaki that had squeaky brakes just popped the pads and lightly sanded off the glazing and made the caliper move freely and it worked.
Maybe the compound is harder to last like a Honda. Don't know.

Probably grizzly 700 and the
Grizzly/kodiak 450. That is what I'm currently on which is still small and compact.

Deerdon: says it best, Yamaha get bigger deer. Solid machine I just need a 50" for the tighter trails.

Elkassain. Are these not common issues on a polaris just curious if I got lemons or are these normal.

I know alot of the polaris wheelers for sale on ksl have new clusters and lower miles then the machine actually has. Pretty dirty trick but there are people making money off of it
