I was sweating trying to get my 12 year old son his first thunder chicken this year. We just got back from a week long family trip to California. A couple months ago, my boy drew his first LE tag for turkey and he was so excited! It was after he got the tag that I realized he drew for north eastern when I meant to put him in for northern region. Long story short, he was very disappointed when we had to turn his tag back in. I was pretty upset with myself for letting him down. In the end, I was able to have a good friend let me on his property in Cache Valley. We rolled back from Cali Thursday night, bought his tag Friday and went out Saturday morning. We immediately had gobbling birds surrounding us as I could see the excitement in my boys eyes! At first light we had this Tom follow 5 hens right into our decs and my boy laid the smack down on him perfectly. This Tom comes in with a 7 3/4 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. It has to be one of my proudest moments and my boy? Well, he is still all smiles ear to ear.

That is awesome, congrats!

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

Congrats to both of you. Making memories with your son is the best. Love the smiles. Keep him hunting!!!

Congrat's to your son and proud papa :) it is always great to see a post with young ones taking game and spending quality time in the outdoors with family.

Great shooting young man :)

LAST EDITED ON May-04-13 AT 09:00PM (MST)[p]Thanks for all the kind words guys!! I just showed my boy and his self esteem is riding sky high from all the positive feed back. I appreciate all of my MM family.

Goofy, couldn't agree more with you on the excellent for the youth to get the addiction started. Being surrounded by gobbling toms as the sun is cresting over the mountain tops on a crisp spring morning is a lot like being surrounded by bugling bulls on a crisp fall morning ;-)

Thanks horsecorn. I have to apologize for our disagreements we had in the past, and the things that were said. I hope we can agree to disagree and let bygones be bygones!!!

Fine looking bird but finer looking young sportsman!
Well done guys!
It's "big game" bird hunting at it's finest.
