Brian Campbell and the folks at Birch Creek Guide Service have some elk hunts available right now for those of you still looking for a guided bull or cow hunt in Oregon.
2 - Murders Creek Guided Archery Bull Hunts with unit wide outfitter tags available. These hunts are 7 day hunts with food and lodging included, with the dates available of 9/2 - 9/8 and 9/25 - 10/1. The price on these hunts is $4,500.00 each, not including license or tag fees. There are 2 outfitter tags available for these hunts.
2 - Northside Guided Archery Bull hunts with Land Owner Preference tags. These hunts are 7 day hunts with the dates available of 9/2 - 9/8 and 9/25 - 10/1. These tags are good for 2,500 acres of high quality private property. The price on these hunts is $4,500.00 each, not including food, lodging, license, or tag fees. Food and lodging is available in the town of Monument, 9 miles away from the ranch.
2 - Northside First Season Guided Rifle Bull Hunts with unit wide outfitter tags available. These are five day hunts with the available dates of 11/1 - 11/5. The price on these hunts are $5,500.00 each, including outfitter tags and access to 2,500 acres of good quality private property, but excludes food and lodging. Food and lodging is available in the town of Monument, 9 miles away from the ranch. Again, these are also outfitter tags, so we are not limited to only hunting private property.
5 day guided cow hunts available from 8/1-12/31. These hunts have a very high success rate (greater than 90%) and require damage tags, so you do not have to draw a tag for this hunt. The cow hunts cost $1,750.00 each, not including food, lodging, license, or tag fees. Food and lodging is available in the town of Monument, 9 miles away from the ranch.
What to expect
Archery: Both Northside and Murders Creek archery hunts are strenuous hunts. Hunters need to be in relatively good shape for these hunts, not necessarily climb Mount Everest shape, but be able to cover some miles by foot, day in and day out. Hunters should plan on the possibility of spike camping out. Many times during the archery hunts, we can end up on bulls right up to dark, and be miles in from any road. In situations like this, it makes more sense to overnight it at our current location, and start back after the bulls first thing the following morning vs hiking all the way out, then all the way back in. Lodging for archery season in the Murders Creek unit is a tent camp accommodation.
Rifle hunts: The Northside rifle hunts are not as strenuous as the archery hunts. We will still cover some miles on foot, but we spend a lot of time sitting and glassing until we find an animal big enough to go after. We spend a large amount of time scouting and always try to find the oldest, most mature animals we can find. At the end of the day, if we find a younger animal that the client is happy with, then that's what we will try to harvest. Through a large amount of time spent preseason scouting, we'll do everything in our power to find animals of these calibers.
