LAST EDITED ON Sep-23-08 AT 05:54PM (MST)[p]Heres a buck I took while hunting the "Rez". He wasn't the monster I wanted but i'm plenty pleased with this young 4x4. Strange. If you notice he doesnt have any eye guards. My wife shot a large 2x2 last season, it didn't have eye guards either. Is this because they are that young? Well anyway he was a "SWEET BUCK" in my book. I had all my girls with me when I took this buck, it made the whole thing that much more special. My oldest daughter, she's 12, was a BIG help dragging this big guy up an 80 yard steep incline. The Mrs was there but she being 5mos pregnant I wouldn't let her help, expect for the last ten feet. My oldest son had to stay behind with his football team.
We came across him at 90 or so yards. He let me get 20 yrds closer. When i got in his comfort zone he bolted, running for the down slope of the mountain. I paralled him, but lost him for less than a minute in the tall pines, junipers and oak brush. I walked throught the brush and thought i had missed my oppurtunity as the downward slope was not more than 25 yards away. So i rustled my way through the oak brush, when from behind a juniper tree he jumps out at my left at 30 yrds. He trotted, i whistled twice at him and he stopped for me at 60 yrds. And i put a well place arrow right through both lungs. He did the death buck and off the ledge he ran....down 80 yards of shale, sage brush, catus and pinon trees. But he was down for the count! I went back told my wife to bring the truck down and the girls and I followed the blood trail. Then the hard work began. I shot him around 545 pm and finally in the truck at 830ish pm. What a hunt!
Hope you all enjoy the pictures.
On the blood trail.
Too much excitement! Danielle/Nicole
