Barnes Varmint Grenades

I've been shooting the Varmint Grenades over the last year at everything from P dogs to Coyotes with great success. I was playing with my .221 Fireball load yesterday and I think I might have something that works. Thes little VGs are cool.

I don't think it turns my Fireball into a 400 yard gun but I do think mice would be in trouble at 200.

I shot the 36gr. Blackhills ammo at a prairie dog shoot and I dont think they are as good as the v-max..at least not out of my gun.

I loaded some for the 22-250, also with a 1 in 14 twist, and my shotgun grouped better at 100 yards. Bullets tumbled in the air and hit the paper sideways. I figured my twist was too slow as they specify 1 in 10 or faster. Would be interested to know what you are loading.

I went with BL-C and a ladder out of the Barnes manual and had good lick with a Kimber .22-250 I think it's a 1-12 twist.

Only load data I could find was from Barnes and they offered only varget and H414. Neither worked. Where did you find BLC2 data?

Pre, it sounds like you are shooting the 50 gr VG and there is no way it will stabilize in that 14 twist. That is why they have it listed on the box that the bullet needs a 1:10" twist or faster.

Targets don't lie. The bullet is very capable of good accuracy.

I just borrowed a few and was not privvy to the label. Oh well.

How do the 36 gr. bullets do on yotes?

I've got one buddy who has killed over 200 of them with the 36 gr VG and says he wont shoot anything else.
