Barrel length

While researching my next rifle I have run into something I have a question maybe someone here may be able to answer.

How much would a 1 inch shorter barrel effect the velocity and energy of a load? I am looking at a Browning 7mm wsm. Browning builds their short magnums with a 23 inch barrel. All the ballistics data I have looked at from both factory data and reloading data show test barrel length of 24 inches. So how much will the 1 inch shorter barrel reduce the ballistics numbers?

Thanks

On that type of round the standard figure is about 35 FPS per inch. you might very that some with different loads but it will be pretty close.

I've found on most magnums the difference over a chronogragh between a 24 and a 26" barrel is 70-80 fps.

On that caliber I would guess very close to +50fps per inch. Standard and smaller mags will go from 35-50 per inch, but you will probably see more on the large mags.
