I've been looking for a new tripod to use for backpacking that is under $200. I have mainly been looking at Bogen and Slik tripods. I will be using it for my spotting scope, binoculars, camera, and camcorder so it will need to be able to support at least 5 lbs. Any advice for a good compact tripod to use for a combination of glassing and filming would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Bogen 3001BN Tripod with a Bogen 700RC2 Mini Video Head. It is extremely sturdy and would definately hold your optics and camera equipment. Together their weight is 4.9 lbs. Probably one of the lightest Bogen combinations that you'll find but extremely sturdy. Whatever you choose, get a tripod that has the legs that can be set at multiple angles, it really helps you get comfortable.

Here are a couple links for the tripod and head with a little info and a price

kwp,

Thanks for the advice. I almost bought the 3001BN Bogen legs a couple of weeks ago, but I decided to check out some other tripods first. It's nice to get feedback from people who have field tested products before you buy them.
