best use of deer and elk points

Heres are point total for elk 16 for deer 10 as a non resident. Looking to do a hunt with my daughter this will be the last time we will have this many points. Would like to go next year any suggestions and help would be appreciated.

61 is very good in all seasons for elk. License #s are limited and there is no deer hunting in the 1st season.

16 NR points would not have drawn a rifle bull tag in 61 this year. Only 11 of 64 NRs w 17 points drew there. You could both draw 2/3rd in 76 (only 3 of 17 NRs w 16 points drew 76 muzzleloading bull, so that was possible but very unlikely in '15, point creep might make it impossible next year), Muzzleloading/66, any tags in 49.

61 is just out of your reach and almost certain to remain so, given annual point creep. Consider 76, 49, and 66 if you smokepole.

It looks like you will need to do 2 hunts...which could be a blessing! If I were in your shoes I think I would hunt 61 deer this year and then come back and hunt 61 elk in a couple of years...you would know the unit well for your elk tag. Good Luck!
